Screen Printing Product Review: RhinoTech Wood & Metal Squeegees

Here we go with a new video as promised. I had trouble editing this as I was working late last night and I was tired so I missed a few things that I had to fix this morning… LOL. After 4 renders I finally got it right 😦 I have to admit I am adding some lights to the shop for video purposes. I felt the back area needed more consistent lighting and adding some more diffused light would make for more stable light as well as color in different shots without having to adjust the light positioning too much. But I think I bounced too much light off the ceiling which made this video a bit green or yellow. I’ll work on that but in the meantime you can still enjoy this RhinoTech product review.

The video called, “Screen Printing Product Review: RhinoTech Wood & Metal Squeegees” is another educational screen printing product review video about RhinoTech’s premade squeegees. This is a short look at both metal handled and wooden handled squeegees made by RhinoTech. They are available in 60, 70 and 80 durometer. In this video I used an old durometer meter and guessed at the durometer to be between 70 and 75 or 85 to 95 but I do believe my meter needs calibrating. We take you through a brief look at both the metal and wooden handles while discussing their differences and advantages. You’ll get to see a close up shot of both squeegees and you get a nice rundown on each. Both of these squeegees from RhinoTech get the Catspit seal of approval due to construction and craftsmanship. They are well made and cleanly done. The squeegee material seems to be of high quality with excellent straight, sharp and square edges. If you’re looking to buy squeegees then this is a must see video!

Screen Printing 3 Colors On Dark Shirts: No Under Base Production Run

I finally had time to upload this new video to YouTube today. Mondays are always crazy aren’t they? This has to be my single most favorite video I’ve made yet. Something about it makes me actually want to watch it over and over. Maybe the music or the production value, either way this new screen printing video is not only informative by demonstration but it’s a lot of fun to watch. The video is a production run which I had some fun with in video creation. It’s sort of a follow up video to the one I recently did about the 3 colors on dark tee shirts with no under base. So if you liked that set up video then you should love this action screenprinting video for sure.

The new video is called, “Screen Printing 3 Colors On Dark Shirts: No Under Base Production Run.” This is an awesome screen printing tutorial video about printing 3 colors on dark garments without an under base. In this video you’ll get to see exactly how this is done and why manual rotary textile presses are the industry standard despite what you may hear from people on YouTube. There are those who say a rotary press is horrible at registration and that couldn’t be farther from the truth. This video proves that by demonstrating how 3 colors are printed on a full rotary press with rotating pallets and print heads. There is no faster or accurate system for printing multi colored designs on assembles tee shirts. Here you’ll see how the print heads are rotated in relation to the pallets and the shirts being printed. You’ll learn how to rotate, load and unload in the fastest way possible on a rotary textile press. It’s also a great demonstration of how you can print high opacity inks on dark garments without an under base.

To see the setup of this job and learn about the inks used see this video which gives you a rundown on the entire set up:

Catspit Custom Screen Printing on KFNX Radio Phoenix

This is a rather long video but since we have added a new section to the Catspit Forum about business, marketing and customer service, I thought it would be cool to upload the second radio spot Catspit Productions has done here in the Valley of the Sun. This is a 30 minute radio spot on a local AM radio station. It’s only 20 minutes or so due to the commercials which I cut out of this video. This is a great example of affordable marketing for your small business. Check with your local radio stations for more information about radio advertising. It’s effective and fun but you have to be able to get over any “stage fright” you may have…. 🙂

This video is called, “Catspit Custom Screen Printing on KFNX Radio Phoenix.” This is an educational screen printing video about Catspit Productions on Phoenix Radio KFNX 1100 AM. This was a 30 minute radio spot I did to help spread the word about Catspit custom screen printing in Phoenix Arizona. Here I went on the air for 30 minutes which included commercials so the spot was about 20 minutes in total. I was also able to get a bunch a 15 second ad spots throughout the day of our airing. Local radio can be a very inexpensive way for you to spread the word about your business, organization or event. This video is a little long for YouTube but I thought I would share this with our hardcore viewers and perhaps give you all more ideas on how you can expand your screen printing business on a low ad budget. In the end I was a little disappointed that I seemed to come full circle in this spot but any publicity is always good and I don’t think I was too bad in this interview. If you try this yourself I can say from experience that it is good to lay out an outline on paper with the most important items you want to share highlighted so you can stay on track throughout the spot. The shorter the spot the easier it will be.

Do It Yourself Baseball Caps: Heat Pressing Hat Patches

I thought it would be fun to show you another very cool and easy way to create custom novelty products that you can add to your sales offerings. As a garment “decorator” you can also sell popular novelty items such as baseball caps and other types of headwear. We all know ball caps are very popular and they are easily heat pressed with embroidered appliques that you can get online. I love to be able to make instant products and this is one type of decorated garment that anyone can make as long as you know a few things and have the right tool to do the job.

The new video is called, “Do It Yourself Baseball Caps: Heat Pressing Hat Patches.” This is an educational screen printing video about heat pressing pre made embroidered patches onto baseball caps. In this tutorial video you’ll get to see how you can purchase novelty heat press patches and apply them to all types of hats and baseball caps. You’ll also learn about the special cap heat press you’ll need in order to do so. This very cool video gives you a complete rundown on the materials, equipment and the process by which novelty designs can be heat transferred to any headwear item. I give you my usual casual explanation of the process with some humor as well. It’s a very informative and entertaining video and it’s a great way to make ball caps that you can sell right out of the trunk of your car. Who doesn’t love the classic American baseball cap? If you’re looking for a way to make a little money on the side then this video is a must see.

Screen Printing On Dark Garments: 3 Colors No Under Base

Here is a very cool new screen printing educational video I uploaded to YouTube. I had a lot of fun making this video and the set up job as well as the video production went very well. The artwork was really excellent because I had my brother do it. He has like over 25 years of experience creating artwork for screenprinting using Illustrator. I like the way he does spot and dot jobs a lot because he combines true spot colors with true halftones. It’s very nice work indeed and this video showcases an example of how artwork could make or break you on press. In this case it made for a great time on press setting up and printing.

The video is called, “Screen Printing On Dark Garments: 3 Colors No Under Base.” This is an educational screen printing video about using high opacity plastisol inks to print onto dark garments including black with no white under base. In this video we show you a 3 color design that was specifically set up for printing on dark colored tee shirts. We’re using high opacity plastisol inks and a thin mesh screen. The screens are 125 count with a 70 micrometer thread diameter which allows for great ink flow while keeping nice details on a lower count mesh. This screen has similar or better ink flow characteristics than a standard 110 mesh which has 80 or 90 micrometer thread diameters. This video demonstrates how working with great artwork, good quality high opacity plastisol inks, and the appropriate mesh count can make printing colors onto black tee shirts easy even without an under base. If you’re considering how to print your next job with colors on very dark garments then you should definitely watch this tutorial video.

Screen Printing Tee Shirts: Exposing & Washing Out 3 Screens

This is another very cool production video about exposing screens and washing out the stencil. I had to make a few screens last Friday so I figured I would create a video for you all to share the methodology by which I work. I had 3 screens to burn so in this video you get to follow along as I set up the screens and expose them. Then I wash them out of course and I show how I use the low pressure air to blow out the excess water in the open mesh of the stencil. This video is a time collapse video so you get to see everything without having to spend 30 minutes watching a video.

This is an educational screen printing video about washing out and burning screens. The video is called, “Screen Printing Tee Shirts: Exposing & Washing Out 3 Screens.” In this screenprinting tutorial video we take a quick look at placing film positives on the screen, exposing the screen and washing out the stencil in the washout booth. The video is a time compression so you get to see about 20 to 30 minutes of work in only 6 minutes. If you have ever wondered what it is like to burn multiple screens at the same time or if you want to watch an experienced person developing screens then this is the video for you. In this video you’ll get to see Jonathan placing the film on the screen and you’ll get to see how he washes out the stencil with nothing more than a garden hose. This is a fun video to watch as the entire sequence is compressed into a video you’ll enjoy seeing.
