ISS Screen Printing Show: Heavy Duty Pressure Washer

Here is another ISS screen printing show video from the RhinoTech booth. In this video we take a look at the heavy duty pressure washer from RhinoTech. This is the RSA 1500A pressure washer for screen printing. I have to say I’ll be much happier having one of these in the shop instead of one of the home owners units from home improvement stores. I can remember the last 2 that I bought. The first of the two broke at the same time I needed to reclaim screens. I had jobs to print so I was forced to go out right away and buy a new one. Then that very unit about 6 months later also broke. The standard hose side which ran household pressure water for washing out screens burst and flooded the shop. I forgot to turn off the water valve the night before. But the hose should have never failed. Well, all that is over now that I have this new heavy duty pressure washer from RhinoTech.

The video is called, “ISS Screen Printing Show: Heavy Duty Pressure Washer.” This tutorial screen printing video is an overview RSA 1500A Pressure washer from RhinoTech. This is a pressure washer designed for heavy usage such as in screen printing. By now if you have been printing for any amount of time you may well know that home owner style pressure washers from home improvement stores are no match for screen printing chores. They may last up to a year or two if you’re lucky but in the end those units are made to wear out and break. It’s the corporate way of ensuring the corporations fiscal health. And in fact many of those name brand units you see discounted at hardware stores are actually specially made for the store. The giant home improvement company will tell the manufacturer what retail price they want to be at and the maker down engineers the unit to match the price. What you get is an item that is nowhere near as good as the original product. You can either keep buying new pressure washers or buy just one. Like this 1450 psi, 110v, 18 amp screen printing pressure washer with safety GFCI plug. Watch the video to learn more about this excellent unit.

ISS Screen Printing Show: What’s New From RhinoTech

Here is another ISS screen printing show video from the RhinoTech booth. I had a lot of fun working the booth with RhinoTech and we had many Catspit visitors stop by their booth to say hello. I gave away a lot of free Catspit Secret Society Logo shirts and I took a few photos with some of our video viewers. But this video is especially cool because we get to learn about a new digital laser transfer paper that I want to use to make some Catspit mugs. Just keep reading to learn more and have a look see at the video perhaps 😉

The video is titled, “ISS Screen Printing Show: What’s New From RhinoTech.” This tutorial screen printing video is an introduction and overview of the RhinoTech Company. The video was made at ISS Long Beach, 2013 in the RhinoTech booth. Here we get to speak directly with Greg Markus, one of the owners of RhinoTech, about where RhinoTech has come from and where they are going with their product line. They offer a lot of screen making equipment including filtration, recirculating, and total reclaiming systems. But as we learn in this video that is not all they have to offer. You’ll learn about their newest digital heat transfer products that are so versatile in their application that you can buy substrates at Wal-Mart or Target. That’s right! Find out about their latest digital laser transfer paper that can be pressed to multiple substrates other than tee shirts. You can make plaques, mugs, plates, glass, metal, and you can even press wood with your customized logo. This is a great video to watch if you want to learn more about the great products from RhinoTech.

Please remember you can get the RhinoTech products on the Print Supplies page of the Catspit website. Use the Catspit promo code to enjoy 5% off list pricing on supplies. Thanks for your support!

Screenprinting Startup Kit Giveaway: Shipping The Goodies Vlog #1

Alright here is a quick vlog style video about the video response startup kit giveaway contest sponsored by Screen Printing Superstore. I thought it would be cool to keep you all updated on the progress of shipping the kits out and I figured it would be fun to get an inside look at what I do on a daily basis. Here you get a peek into the Catspit office, hence the poor lighting. This is a very casual video in which I seemed to have lost my shoes 😉 Well if you ever come out to Phoenix, Arizona you’ll quickly understand why many people go without shoes here all year round. Flip flops are king in this State although I cannot wear those. They just fly off me when I walk 😦 But I’m just a free spirited barefoot hippy type who wouldn’t wear shoes if it were safe to do so everywhere…. LOL.

The new video is called, “Screenprinting Startup Kit Giveaway: Shipping The Goodies Vlog #1.” This screen printing video is a short vlog about packing up the first of the two screen printing start up kits that Screen Printing Superstore and Catspit Productions gave away in a YouTube video response contest. The first kit is going to Southern California and the second will ship up to Canada. This vlog style video is simply an update on the progress of shipping out the kits to their respective winners. Here you get a little peak inside the Catspit office on the “warehouse” end. You’ll see a barefoot Jonathan working to pack up the boxes as he explains his concerns in shipping and packing the goods. This is a very casual vlog video in which you’ll also see Kepler, our current Matriarch of the Catspit Empire. LOL… well you know what we mean don’t you 😉 So welcome inside Jonathan’s world, we hope you enjoy this personal peek into his daily activities with Catspit Productions online.

Screen Printing: RhinoTech At ISS Long Beach 2013

Here is a very quick and shaky video walk through of the RhinoTech booth at ISS Long Beach 2013. I think I may have moved the camera a bit much with this one especially at the end. I am so used to using the tripods in the shop that I forget to move a little slower when hand holding the camera. Well, it’s still a fun video to watch and get a feel of what it’s like to be at the show. I hope you all enjoy this short look at the RhinoTech booth 😉

This educational screen printing video is a short walk through of the RhinoTech booth at ISS Long Beach 2013. Here we take a quick look at their booth and some of the products they are featuring at the show. Greg and Shelley Markus make a special cameo appearance in this fun booth tour. Learn more about RhinoTech and the products or services they offer in this screenprinting trade show video. In this video we get a look at a large chemical drum system, washout booths and a special pressure washer made for screen printers. See Chris working the booth as we have a look see at the RhinoTech booth. Some of you may know him from technical support. We think you’ll enjoy this very casual walk through narrated by Jonathan from Catspit Productions. You may notice some audio disturbances in the beginning of the video but that will disappear after the first minute. The show had some interference on the Bluetooth wireless microphones on a few parts of some of these videos. But it’s still a cool video for you to enjoy.

Screen Printing Trade Show: Interview With Upperhand Printing

Our first ISS Long Beach, 2013 trade show video. Meet Craig Freeburg of Upperhand printing and hear what he has to say about RANAR equipment and Catspit Productions! I had a lot of fun meeting with many different people who watch the Catspit educational videos on YouTube but I have to admit meeting Craig was especially fun and I love this quick video we made together. I probably talk too much as I am, used to leading the videos and such so I have to work on my interviewing skills… LOL 😉

This video is called, “Screen Printing Trade Show: Interview With Upperhand Printing.” This educational screen printing video is about the Imprinted Sportswear Show or ISS, 2013. Here we are hanging out at the RANAR booth as we meet and interview Craig Freeburg of Upperhand Printing. This is a really cool short video in which we learn more about Craig and his screen printing endeavors. He bought some equipment from Catspit Productions some time ago and he gives us a testimonial on the RANAR products. Craig is also a musician and he is in a band called Trumpet The Harlot. With his new RANAR equipment bought from Catspit Productions he is now printing all of his bands logo wear. Craig is also an active member of the Catspit Learn How To Screen Print Forum on the Catspit website. You can ask him questions on the forum if you like. His user name is of course Upperhand Printing. Thanks a lot to Craig and company for stopping by the RANAR booth to meet with Jonathan and share his experiences printing tee shirts. It was so much fun to meet and interview him.

Screen Printing Fun: Road Trip To ISS Long Beach, CA

This is the long awaited and overdue first video from the ISS screen printing trade show in Long Beach, California. This is a behind the scenes video that was supposed to load early Friday morning the first day of the show. But due to traveling gremlins it was not possible. That means I forgot the cord to down load the video files… hehe. Sorry about that but yeah this video was supposed to be seen the day the show began. It’s still a fun video I think and you’ll get to see some of the American country I live near. So take a break and watch this fun little video about the ride out.

The video is called, “Screen Printing Fun: Road Trip To ISS Long Beach, CA.” This educational screen printing video is about my road trip by car to Long Beach California for the Imprinted Sportswear Show or ISS, 2013. This year I traveled alone one again and the drive was excellent, without incident. In this entertainment and automotive video you’ll come along for the ride from Phoenix, Arizona all the way to Redondo Beach in California. We pass through Blythe, Palm Springs and Indio along with other cool American cities. The coast is a lot of fun to visit with all the famous Californian places as well as the beaches. If you’re a barefoot bum like Jonathan then you’ll enjoy this area where it is not uncommon to find people going about without shoes in many places. It can be a very touristy area but it also has that Cali cool sort of feel if you let yourself get into the local mood. Venice Beach is nearby and if you go during the weekday it’s pretty benign. So come along for another fantastic voyage with me and Catspit Productions as we road trip it to the screen printing trade show.

How To Screen Print T-Shirts: Spray Tack As Insurance?

So here is another very quick video about tips on why we should use spray tack. As usual I always forget to mention every little detail I want to but I think this is a great video that will answer a lot of the common questions I get about spray tack usage. I actually know a few people who will not use spray tacks on one color print jobs and they rip the ink out of the mesh as the shirts stick to the substrate side of the screen and are pulled off by the pallet holding the rest of the shirt back. Well there are two very good reasons not to do that. So this video is just a little tip that encourages the use of spray tacks or whatever pallet adhesive you may prefer.

This video is called, “How To Screen Print T-Shirts: Spray Tack As Insurance?” This educational screen printing video is about working spray tacks. Here we discuss why using spray tack for all you printing jobs is a great way to give yourself a second chance on print strokes as well as increase print resolution. Do you need to use spray tacks on one color jobs? You’ll learn what Jonathan has to say about that and why he suggests using it. This is a great video for beginners who don’t really understand the importance of using spray tack. So if you’re new to screen printing or you don’t really understand how to use spray tack then this video is a must see. You’ll even learn how spray tack can improve ink shear and thus coverage. That’s right because without spray tack there couldn’t be proper ink shear. Take a look at this quick tip video as we attempt to help you help yourself to have an easy time screenprinting tee shirts.

2013 Screen Printing Artist in Residency Program In Haiti

Jakmel Ekspresyon Community Art Center is excited to announce a partnership with Burners Without Borders to create a unique screen printing business with local artists in Jacmel, Haiti. We are currently accepting applications for artists from around the world to teach month-long courses in 2013. As part of this partnership, we are actively fund-raising together through an IndieGoGo.com crowd-funding campaign and through other outlets.

The Jakmel Ekspresyon Community Arts Center (JE) is an organization in Jacmel, Haiti, providing local artists with space and facilities to explore various mediums of artistic expression  in a safe, non-discriminating environment. Haiti can be a harsh place for those on the margins of society. People with physical handicaps, those who identify as gender ambiguous or homosexual, as well as women may face discrimination. At Jakmel Expresyon, everyone is welcome — and JE is devoted to providing and preserving a safe haven for these Haitian artists.

Burners Without Borders (BWB) is a grassroots, volunteer-driven, community leadership organization whose goal is to unlock the creativity of local communities to solve problems and bring about change. Founded by Burners (Burning Man participants) who instinctively gathered in the Hurricane Katrina disaster zone to help those who couldn’t help themselves, BWB has grown into a dynamic international, volunteer organization made possible by the generous financial support of the community and an army of highly creative volunteers.

Jacmel is a sea-side town in southern Haiti with approximately 50,000 residents. It is a historic town which is regarded as the arts and cultural cultural country. Jacmel suffered substantial damage and loss of life during the 2010 earthquake.  Recovery efforts have been successful in Jacmel compared to other places in the country.  There is also investment including multi-million dollar hotel and convention center projects which will help rebuild the tourist industry. The original industry of the town was coffee exportation.  Jakmel is world famous for it’s paper mache crafts.  Recently, a film school Cine Institute was formed and a theater Spare Change Theater were formed further enriching the local arts.

In spite of these great assets, the present reality for Jacmel businesses must travel to the capital city Port au Prince for many services which may creates extra expense for businesses and stifles employment. Jacmel doesn’t currently have a local screen-printing shop for publicity materials such as posters, cards, or staff T-shirts or public health announcements. With this need in mind, Jakmel Ekspresyon and Burners Without Borders see an great potential to build technical skills in screen printing and create entrepreneurship opportunities for the art center membership.

Beyond these businesses opportunities, screen-printing is a vital popular art form and an ideal medium for the cultural exchange which is part of the mission of our organizations.  Haitian arts such as paintings and sequin tapestries are rich in two-dimensional iconography which are applicable to screen-printing  Visiting artists will broaden their own work through exposure to this heritage.

The screen printing project is divided into three components, similar to semesters. Each component contains three distinct month-long classes. One artist will be chosen to teach each month-long course. The first component is centered on graphic design, technical and conceptual elements.  The second component uses the images created in the design component to learn the technical skills of screen printing.  The third component teaches the members how to create a job with their new skills.

The artists at Jakmel Ekspresyon enrolled in this program will range from late teens to mid-30’s. Half of the class will be drawing and painting students who have completed the year-long class- learning figurative, proportions, and perspective. The other students will go through an application/interview process to be enrolled in the program. These students will all have some artistic skill-set but some may be self taught and will most likely be painters.

We are actively fund-raising to support this project. Expenses include travel expense to Jakmel from artist home countries and modest room, board and stipen for the artist.  They also include facilities build out at the center.

We encourage you to promote this incredible story. For more information on the project and the organization,  please see the following web resources.

How To Screen Print T-Shirts: Masking Tape Tips

Here is another quick tip video about using masking tape for screen printing. I have to admit the shop is a mess and I was bombarded with print jobs last week. It always seems to be the case when you are very busy or when you have to leave the office to travel the print jobs start flowing in. What can one do? Well you can do what I did and just make a couple of videos amongst the mess… 😉 You can always clean up later right? There’s nothing like procrastination.

The new video is called, “How To Screen Print T-Shirts: Masking Tape Tip.” This educational screen printing video is about working with masking tape. Many people are afraid to use masking tape due to the poor reputation it has for absorbing solvents and leaving adhesives behind after removal. But masking tape can indeed be an economically practical tape to use in your screenprinting shop. With the few tips and the dog ear trick we show you in this video you should be able to use masking tape as we do in shop without any major issues. This video will teach you what you need to know about masking tape and working with it in the screen printing process. You’ll learn how long it can be left on the screen and how it can more easily be removed without harsh solvents. A simple trick that you may have used in grade school will help make masking tape a viable consumable in your print shop.

Screen Printing Tee Shirts Video FAIL!

Once in a while when making videos things go awry. Some of the time I have to reshoot or edit and fix things that are totally stupid or erroneous. But for the most part things go pretty well and I am able to do many scenes in one shot. I have gotten used to making videos and much more comfortable than I used to be in some of my earliest videos. It is fun to go back now and then when I answer questions and take a look at the older videos. It can be very amusing and sometimes I fell like, what the heck was I thinking? This new video is an example of how things can go wrong when shooting new screenprinting videos.

The video is called, “Screen Printing Tee Shirts Video FAIL!” This educational screen printing video was intended to be another production run video but things didn’t seem to go as planned. The video starts out as a pretty ordinary screenprinting production run but immediately we find that this is going to be one of those runs that doesn’t quite go so well. In this video you’ll get a laugh as Jonathan sets up the 1 color print job while being very distracted by the camera. This normally does not happen but once in a while Jonathan has so much going through his little head that he can easily be distracted. This is a perfect example of why you should reduce any distractions while you are printing because it only takes a moment of mindless thought o ruin a shirt. So come along for a very amusing ride with Catspit Productions as we print some tee shirts to take to the trade show this January in Long Beach. If Jonathan sees you there you can get one of these shirts free!
