Learn How To Screen Print Forum Contributor Shout Out!

This is a video that I meant to keep short but I think I am excited at how the Catspit educational screen printing forum is performing in only 8 months. On the forum we have ranks and rewards based on the number of posts you make. At 125 posts you get the rank of Master Screen Printer and you can contact me to get a shout out video like this one. Watch this video to learn more about the Catspit screen printing forum and meet our first Master Screen Printer, Greg from Apeshirt Apparel, LLC. Greg has been making a lot of posts and he has even begun answering other people’s questions as well. This video is for you Greg. It may be a little long but it goes fast if you pay attention to me…. LOL 🙂

The video is called, “Learn How To Screen Print Forum Contributor Shout Out!” This is an educational screen printing video about the Catspit Productions learn how to screen print forum. This is just a reminder that we have a relatively new screen printing forum on the Catspit Productions website and it is there free of charge for all to utilize in their endeavors to screenprint tee shirts or other garments. The forum is based on the process itself which is unusual for a screen printing forum. Most other forums on this subject are complicated to navigate, full of advertisers or sponsors, and contain topics that are not really related to screen printing. The Catspit forum is dedicated to helping you to learn how to print your own tee shirts by separating the forum into categories based on a step by step rundown of the process. In this video we remind you of the forum while giving a shout out to our first major contributor. Apeshirt form the Catspit forum has reached the rank of Master Screen Printer and has begun answering questions on his own. Now he is a moderator and we hope to hear more from Greg at Apeshirt Apparel Printing.

How To Screen Print Nylon Or Satin Jackets

I thought it would be fun to share with you the process by which nylon or satin jackets are printed with a 1 color design. Due to the shrinking abilities of the synthetic material in the jacket shell it is very difficult to print multi colors with any degree of registration. It can be done but you should be extremely experienced to try that. Now I haven’t printed this type of thing in many years so it was fun to make this video for you all. I hope you enjoy it! 🙂

The new YouTube video is called, “How To Screen Print Nylon Or Satin Jackets.” This is an educational screen printing video about how to screen print nylon and satin windbreakers or baseball jackets. This is a very simple explanation of what you’ll need, what you should use and how to get plastisol inks to bond to the synthetic fabrics. The video takes us through a quick rundown on using a jacket pallet or hold down as well as why an iron would be a useful tool in printing these jackets and how to cure them properly without burning or shrinking the nylon fabric. In the video you’ll see Jonathan mix a catalyst into the plastisol ink on screen and you’ll see a black satin baseball jacket as well as a nylon windbreaker being printed. If you have never thought about expanding your product offerings this is an excellent video to watch. After you watch the video you’ll be ready to look at offering 1 color printed jackets to your customer base and perhaps increase sales especially if you are in a region that has a lot of cold weather.

Screen Printing Product Review: Using Blockout To Fix Pinholes

This is a cool educational video about RhinoTech’s block out products. These products are designed to be used after you burn a new stencil and you find wither pinholes or other imperfections in the emulsion. You can also use them for filling in the space between the screen frame edge and the emulsion. These blockout products range from a thin water based formula, a thick water based formula and finally a permanent chemical based formula with activator. In this product review we take a quick look at all 3 items and demonstrate the application of the thin blockout even though in the video Jonathan says he’ll use the thick formula. LOL, he used the thin because it was a pretty red. No seriously we thought it would contrast against the blue emulsion better than the thicker blue blockout. You can watch the video to find out all the details on these products and you’ll learn where to get them at a discount too of course. Check it out today!

The new video is called, “Screen Printing Product Review: Using Blockout To Fix Pinholes.” This is an educational screen printing video is about RhinoTech’s blockout products. These are products designed to fix emulsion imperfections and defects as a filler medium. Rather than using old emulsion that needs a post cure you can save time by using water soluble thin and thick blockout solutions or a 2 part permanent blockout. In this video you will be introduced to these products and you will see a demonstration of two application methods. Two of these block outs are water soluble and completely re-claimable which allows for the reuse of the screen. The third blockout product is very permanent. It will never come out of the mesh most likely. In this video you will hear what Jonathan has to say about the usage of these products and his recommendations for home printers as well as commercial shops. If you are having any problems with pinholes or emulsion imperfections then this video could be valuable for you to watch.

RhinoTech’s Self Weeding Laser Heat Transfer Paper: Laundry Wash Test

This is a follow up video to the video called, “1 Step Self Weeding Color Laser Heat Transfer Paper.” In that video we talked about how to use the laser heat transfer paper and we pressed a shirt showing the peel with the final transfer result. Now in this follow up we take the test shirts from the above mentioned video and wash them in an automatic laundry machine. Then we take a close look at the transfer before washing and after washing. It’s a cool video that proves the worthiness of this transfer paper. As I would always say, “Pretty cool.”

The video is called, “RhinoTech’s Self Weeding Laser Heat Transfer Paper: Laundry Wash Test.” This is an educational screen printing video is about RhinoTech’s new Singlestep self weeding color laser heat transfer paper. The first video we did about this product showed the pressing of the transfer and gave instructions on how to use it with tips from my testing experience with the paper. Now as a follow up I made this video where we actually take a look at the transferred shirt before and after washing in the laundry. I thought this would be an interesting follow up video to the transfer video. Everyone always asks how many washes does it take before it will fade or stop fading. Well it turns out that this laser heat transfer paper stands up very well under washing in an automatic washing machine. Very nice indeed! This paper seems to be an excellent choice for doing 1 offs or low quantity orders which demand complex designs with multiple colors. You can do free standing text and other graphics that would normally look horrible with the polymer adhesive in between the image parts. It’s a pretty cool paper with a lot of potential and worth investigating to see if it’s right for you.

1 Step Self Weeding Color Laser Heat Transfer Paper

Here’s a video about a new product made by RhinoTech. I really wish I had a digital thermostat on my heat press because I think it would have helped me out a little in working with this paper but overall I liked the results very much. It’s nice to be able to do a self weeding process in one step rather than having to do the adhesive sheet at a different temperature and the pressing at a higher temperature like most 2 part self weeding heat transfer papers. Now what I want to do hopefully over the weekend is wash some test shirts I did and do a comparison write up for the blog. I think that would be nice to see. Maybe I can do a picture of before and after.

The new video is called, “1 Step Self Weeding Color Laser Heat Transfer Paper.” This is an educational screen printing video is about RhinoTech’s new Singlestep self weeding color laser heat transfer paper. In this video we take a quick look at how the paper works and what it is like to work with it. For this color laser transfer paper we need a very good working laser printer and RhinoTech recommends a Go Uno machine. You’ll get to see the transfer paper being pressed to the shirt and a close up shot of the transfer after peeling. You’ll learn about what factors are critical when working with this paper as well as where to buy it and how to get a discount on it. In the video you will also see how the self weeding color laser transfer paper works as we examine the transfer closer up. You can do free standing text and other graphics that would normally look horrible with the polymer adhesive in between the image parts. It’s a pretty cool paper with a lot of potential and worth investigating to see if it’s right for you.

Screen Printing Experiment: Can A Heat Press Cure Plastisol Inks?

Okay so I decided to do a quick video as an experiment just to see what would happen if you try to cure plastisol inks with a heat press. I think that ultimately the process could work by lessoning the pressure, temperature, and perhaps the time. But it does seem that with higher volumes of ink or with under base printing it may be difficult to do without affecting the final look of the print. I had a good time making this video in between print jobs but I admit I have seen videos of people using a heat press to cure shirt but I never saw a close up of the final print either. So it might work for you and it might not. For commercial screen print work I think it would be tremendously slow at best.

The new video is called, “Screen Printing Experiment: Can A Heat Press Cure Plastisol Inks?” In this new YouTube production we test out the idea of curing plastisol inks using a heat press. Many people have asked us before and it seems that some people actually do this so we’re taking a quick look at the method per your request. In the screenprinting video we lay down a decent amount of white ink on a black tee shirt which has to be among the most difficult to cure on a heat press and we test out the method. This should be a fun video to watch as I dive in and try it with only craft paper. I think you’ll see why if you’re going to try this you’ll need a Teflon sheet for sure. For us the print was a total disaster and it really looked bad. Some of the ink picked up on the craft paper while the heat press pushed the ink so much into the knit it spread out some filling it and creating a jagged edge. You certainly would have to lower the pressure, temperature, and perhaps the time to do this without messing up the print. It seems some testing would be in order if this were to be your only means of curing screen printed plastisol inks.

Screen Printing In 1988 With my Oldest Brother & Beer!

Okay so I gave you all a preview of the photographs I had found from 1988 of me and my brother screen printing in his very first garage boy shop in New York State. I originally was going to write up a blog post and put the images into that and share them all with you but I decided to make it a little more fun to look at by turning it into a mini slide show video for YouTube. I figured it would get more attention this way and it would be seen by more of our audience as opposed to a blog post. It was amazing to see these pictures again of me at age 17 screen printing a multi colored job in the garage. My brother is a social butterfly so he used to get a lot of jobs just by talking to different people when he went out for any reason. One time on a visit to Arizona before he moved out here he had a 10 minute conversation with a guy who spoke Spanish in the supermarket…. LOL. But seriously he is gifted at social networking in real life.

The new video/slide show is called, “Screen Printing In 1988 With my Oldest Brother & Beer!” This is an educational screen printing video about my brother’s shop in 1988. These are some very old photographs I found of my brother’s first garage boy shop at our home in Putnam Valley, New York. This is after my experiences screenprinting fine art work and tee shirts with my Uncle Angelo. So I am 17 years old here and I am doing some of my first commercial printing in these still photos. I thought you all would appreciate the photos and getting a peak at what I looked like in 1988. In these images we are working in the garage shop late in the evening and it appears that we are printing a multi-color job here. You get to see not only me but there’s a shot with my brother Jeff having a beer and our mother is in the background. In one of the shot our longtime friend of the family John Bell is seen. This is back in the day when we made most all of our own screens from wood using nails and glue. You can see stacks of Saati mesh above my head in some of these shots which we used to make our screens with. Even back in the day Saati was always very helpful to us.

Thanks for checking out my little slide show! Learn how to screen print for fun or for profit!

Screen Printing Classes, Training, Instruction & Education

I figured I’d make this video very quickly to remind you all that you can take classes with Catspit Productions and RANAR in El Segundo California. It’s about 30 minutes from the Long Beach Convention Center and currently we hold 2 classes each year; one in August after the show in LB and one in January after the show there too. But we are getting request to hold earlier classes throughout the year. The problem is I am in Phoenix so we need at least 4 people for a class to be possible. Therefore RANAR and I wanted to remind you that you can contact us and let us know you want to take a class sooner.

The video is called, “Screen Printing Classes, Training, Instruction & Education.” Catspit Productions offers some very special classes and hands on instruction with Jonathan himself at the RANAR factory in El Segundo, California. We normally host 2 classes each year; one in August and one in January. But often we are asked about holding classes earlier than the scheduled classes you can find here:

http://www.catspitproductionsllc.com/screen-printing-classes-training.html

Therefore since we get these requests RANAR and Catspit Productions will keep a waiting list to hold an earlier class at RANAR. So if you are interested in having a class sooner than scheduled please contact Jonathan or RANAR and let them know you would like to be on the waiting list for an unscheduled class. Once we have 4 people or more we can hold the class. If you are interested make sure to let us know.

Haunted Halloween Screen Printing Shop: Too Scary For Kids!

Happy Halloween everyone! As many of you may well know this is my favorite time of the holiday season. The first All Hallows Eve video I did explained my love of the holiday with all of its imagery, sounds, icons and movies. So this year I have been very busy in the shop and online. It seems everyone is trying to get a piece of the traffic I have created for Catspit…. uuughh. It would astound you if you knew the things people do to me online wasting my time and theirs. Anyway I almost didn’t get to make a Halloween video this year and I am currently working on a video sponsored by Screen Printing Superstore which will be a decent giveaway offer. They have donated a startup kit for me to give away to one of our YouTube viewers. So stay tuned for that video later this week. For now you can enjoy my holiday follies as I ready myself for the deluge of candy hungry children who will prowl the streets like sugar zombies.

The new holiday video is called, “Haunted Halloween Screen Printing Shop: Too Scary For Kids!” The “Too Scary For Kids” part is a joke of course. So this screen printing video is really about safety tips for Halloween decorations, parties and trick or treating. This is the video in which I share with you all my personal experiences with All Hallows Eve and how you can avoid the problems I have encountered over the years. But it is Halloween after all so do I get to actually tell you anything? Do ghosts and goblins take over the shop? Does the Grim Reaper come for a visit and talk to us? Does the shop get haunted prank phone calls and stalkers calling? Will you learn about ghosts, ghouls, trolls, monsters, vampires, and werewolves? You just might do some ghost hunting in this tutorial video about screenprinting with Jonathan. Or it might just be an ordinary advice and tips video about Halloween safety. You’ll have to watch it to find out.
