This is the final video in our 3 part series on how I got started screenprinting full time and how I ended up doing free educational videos about screenprinting on YouTube. Fine Art Photography: Lost Black & White Image Collection

Good Monday morning to you all and I hope you all had a wonderful holiday break. Best wishes for 2014 as we start the New Year with the ISS trade show in Long Beach, California. Originally I thought I would skip this year and save some money. But I’m going this year to spend some time with my Father and brother there. This is a very small collection of my fine art photography that was left over after the apartment fire of 2008. These were some of the few silver nitrate prints that were left undamaged. Most of my collection of framed or unframed photographs were either damaged or ruined in the fire. This small grouping of images is a minor example of some of the work I used to do. My favorite subjects were industrial abstracts Edward Weston type nudes. My school of photography was that of Alfred Stieglitz and the straight photograph movement. Any special effects seen in any of these images was done directly in front of the camera lens at the time of exposure. No darkroom modifications were made to these black and white images.

This video also introduces Predecessor. This is a metal band that offered to supply some music for us to use on Catspit screen printing videos. In order to break them in and introduce them to you this video features their track called “Skin Deep” on the new 2014 album, Through the Winters Cold.

How To Screen Print: Fleece Zipper Hoodies And Sweatshirts

As requested; A full length, in depth screenprinting video tutorial about printing fleece zipper hoodies & sweatshirts. This one took a bit of doing and as you recall I had a headache while doing this. I was actually feeling okay by this point but I felt like I was not focused. So was this a good video? It’s long but it goes through the pallet set up to printing and discusses many points in detail with some repetition for clarity. I had major troubles rendering this one and this is why it is uploading so late. But it came out pretty good with only a few things I don’t really like… LOL. But I am my own worst critic, right?

I figured we would combine screenprinting fleece hoodies and sweatshirts into a longer
video about fleece garments. Previously we did a quick tips video about fleece
in general but now we are diving in for a much deeper look at setting up a
zipper hoodie pallet and screen printing both a hoodie and a crew neck
sweatshirt with a 1 color gray ink on dark garments. These were 100% and 50/50
poly cotton blend fleece products. Here we will discuss off contact, pallets,
zippers, and how the more cushy and tight knitted fleece prints. This is the
ultimate screenprinting tutorial video about doing sweatshirts and hoodies
during the fall or winter. You’ll learn all about printing and pre shrinking
before you attempt to do it yourself. Please also see the link below for the

How To Screen Print Tee Shirts: Mesh Tension Review & Summary

This video was actually requested a month or 2 ago and I can’t even remember by whom now… LOL. Sorry buddy but here it is as promised. This video is a review of mesh tension with a discussion of roller frames. Don’t forget to check out the video description for related articles and links.

I know we have discussed mesh tension and why it is so important to have a very tight screen to work with when printing tee shirts but I am not sure I talked about static aluminum frames versus the dynamic roller frames. So as requested this video reviews some of the most important benefits from proper mesh tension while explaining a little bit about roller frames. In this video I will quickly point out benefits of tight screens while giving you a brief summary of mesh tension in general. But the video begins with an introductory discussion of roller frames and their major differences. How To Screen Print: Controlling Squeegee & Ink On Screen

I thought I should share my thoughts on these topics for your benefit. This is the kind of thing most screen printing educators don’t necessarily talk about. This is another awesome screenprinting tutorial video in which we take a look at what it means to control the ink on press. Here we discuss proper usage of the squeegee while highlighting some best practices for controlling ink while you are printing. Do you find your ink is coming up on the squeegee handle? Does it get all over the frame edges? Are you constantly using your spot cleaning gun to remove spots and fingerprints from finished product? Then you may want to take the time to review this quick tips video in which we take a look at these issues and point them out so you may be aware of what you are doing while printing. How To Screen Print: White Plastisol Ink On Navy Tee Shirts

Here is the promised and long awaited production run screenprinting video in which I show you my “one hit plastisol white” printing for an actual print job. I know this is a heated topic of debate as to how and why dark garments should be printed a certain way but in my experience 100% cotton is relatively easy to print white ink on. And dye migration is normally an issue associated with poly/cotton blends or perhaps very bad dye jobs on 100% cotton. Even a re-dye can be an issue.

This is another awesome screenprinting tutorial video in which we take a look at a method of screen printing white plastisol ink on dark garments. Everyone knows that this can be one of the most difficult inks to print and white plastisol ink is known to be thick. Many people print one pass and then flash cure the white ink before printing it again to gain a nice opacity or coverage. The resulting print is very white but often thick and rubbery feeling. Not only that, it takes double the time to print a run of tee shirts this way. Therefore most shops print a high opacity white ink through a more open mesh with proper off contact in order to achieve an excellent print without using too much ink or time. In the end this will be a matter of preference which way you print and which print result you like better but the prints demonstrated in this video were very white, not too thick and were fast to print. It was a high quality print perfectly acceptable to the customer and the printer while being relatively easy to print. And remember when you start to print higher volumes of tee shirts, time is money.
