The Basic Chemicals Used For Screen Printing Tee Shirts

I was very busy this week in the shop and in the office. I meant to upload this video Wednesday or Thursday morning but it actually uploaded late last evening. This is a video I made in response to a very general question I get asked on a weekly basis. I thought this video would be a better way to answer the question without copying and pasting the same prewritten answer for everyone. And we all know people like to watch videos more than read long messages. So here is a summary rundown of the basic chemicals used in screenprinting tee shirts. For some this may be redundant but for others this may be very helpful.

This is a new educational video that was inspired by many submissions of the same or similar question. This could be redundant for some but I thought it would be a good idea to do a video in which we discuss, describe and explain the basic consumable chemicals used in screenprinting T-shirts. In this summary video you will get detailed descriptions of chemicals used to make screens, clean up inks, and prepare to print your garments on press. If you’re new to the screen printing process and you’re confused about what each chemical does and how to use them then check out this tutorial video for screenprinting startups. Learn about mesh abrader, mesh prep, emulsion, press wash, ink wash, emulsion remover, and haze remover. You’ll also learn about blockout in this fun instructional video by Jonathan at Catspit Productions, LLC. I guarantee if you’re new to screen printing you’ll not only enjoy this video but you’ll learn something new.

Screen Printing Tee Shirts: Color Coded Chemical Bucket/Brush Set

Here we go as requested and as promised. MacDermid Autotype CPS color coded chemical buckets and brush sets. It took me a while to get this done. Also the product is one the ecommerce website but I have to figure the shipping details before it will be ready for click and ship. But you can call me if you would like more information on these. Anyway this video gives you a great rundown on this product with details of how it might be used in shop.

This is another screenprinting educational video that was planned some time ago. Finally after a little urging from one of our customers I have made the video looking at the MacDermid Autotype CPS color coded chemical bucket and brush set. In this fun video I take a close look at this set of heavy duty long lasting brushes and their color matched buckets. You will learn what the buckets are for in the screen making process and how to best use them. We also compare this chemical application system to spray bottles briefly in the washout booth. See the best way to apply chemicals with these awesome chemical resistant brushes. These industrial brushes will last a lifetime when used and cared for properly. The buckets have been tested along with the brushes in the Catspit shop for over 2 years and they are still working like new. So take a moment with me as I entertain and educate you on the latest screenprinting product brought to you by Catspit Productions, LLC and MacDermid Autotype. Thanks to MacDermid Autotype for making it possible to bring their products direct to you.

Screenprinting Multi Colors: How To Line Up Film Positives On Screens

Here’s the screenprinting video about how to set up your film positives on screens for multi-color print jobs I promised. I hope this video helps you in your screen making process. There are many different ways to do this but here are 2 that I have used regularly in the past. We’ll look at other ways in the future with new screen printing videos from Catspit Productions. Stay tuned. Subscribe and enjoy!

This is another screenprinting educational video that has been requested many times in the past. If you know about screen printing tee shirts then you know that for each color printed we need a film positive and a screen. This tutorial video demonstrates and explains 2 different methods to setting up your film positives on a multi-color print job. Here you will learn ways to get each film positive for each different color on the screens in relatively the same location. That will make it much easier to line up the screens when setting up the print job and in fact it can make or break you on press. Where’re not talking about rocket science here but we want the film positives to be placed on all the screens for that job in the same location without much discrepancies. The first of these 2 methods is old school and a little slower. The second is a little faster but maybe not as precise. So follow me along as he shares his personal experiences with printing on presses without micro registration.

Screenprinting: How To Register Multi Color Jobs NO Micro Reg

Here’s the screenprinting educational video I promised you all yesterday. I hope it lives up to all your expectations that I may have inspired with the announcement of this video… LOL. This is one of those topics that is difficult to teach without hands on instruction and some personal experience. In this video I give my best efforts in sharing my experiences with presses that do not have micro registration. I hope this helps you all more than I think it might 😉

This screenprinting educational video has been requested many times in the past. This is one of those topics that is not easy to teach and may be more a matter of experience than anything. Many people seem to have issues when registering multi-color print jobs on presses that do not have micro registration. But It is not necessarily the fault of the printer in that the build of the press may be at fault. Many bench presses are built in such a way that the screen moves when you tighten the clamps. Why does that happen? How does that affect my registration and how do you prevent it? These are not easy questions to answer in this instance but there are a few things that I can share with you that may help make it easier for you to register your multi-color screen print jobs on press when you have no micro registration. So follow me along as I share my personal experiences with printing on presses without micro registration.

How To Screen Print Tee Shirts: Mini Infrared Belt Dryer Review

This is my latest screenprinting video as requested. Take a close up look at the Ranar Scamp DX200 mini infrared belt dryer. I have some of the RANAR screenprinting equipment here in Phoenix to offer locally so I figured we could certainly take a look at some of the goodies I have to offer.

This is a video made especially for a customer who asked about this product. Here we take a short but close up look at the RANAR Scamp DX200 infrared belt oven for screenprinting tee shirts. This belt dryer is recommended for plastisol ink although it can be used to heat set dry water based inks as well. The compact configuration of this unit makes it especially good for small shops or work at home screen printers. The infrared belt dryer is 120v and 17 amps which will run on most household outlets that are on 20 amp breakers. Your standard kitchen and garage electrical outlets are likely to be 20 amp outlets. But always check with your electrician for details. This unit has the adaptability of doing hats and other odd printable products that need heat setting or curing. If you’re just starting out and thinking of using a flash cure to do the final cure with your plastisol printed shirts or if you are thinking of a smaller operation then this is a great belt oven to consider. Remember Catspit Productions offers free shipping on major equipment purchases anywhere in the continental US.

How To Screen Print: Vacuum Top Vs. Non Vacuum Exposure Units

This is a customer inspired video about the CBX 20×24 table top exposure unit made by RANAR and offered by Catspit Productions. This video features the non-vacuum exposure unit in a comparison video about the differences between vacuum tops and non-vacuum units. It’s an awesome educational video if I don’t say so myself 😉 If you’re looking to buy a new exposure unit and you’re debating on the two types of units then you should probably watch this video.

This is a video made especially for a customer who was a little skeptical about our RANAR CBX 20×24 table top exposure unit. It turns out after some usage he loves the unit. But the information contained in the video is a valuable comparison of vacuum exposure units versus non vacuum table top exposure units. Here you will learn about the differences between the two units and what it means to your screen making process. Can you make halftones with an industrial black lamp fluorescent vacuum exposure unit? I answer that. Can you make halftones with an industrial black lamp fluorescent table top exposure unit? I answer that too. If you’re in the beginning stages of screenprinting and trying to decide which type of exposure unit is best for you then this video is a must see. Come along for the ride as I explain the differences between these machines and watch as I make a screen with the table top unit.

ISS Screenprinting Trade Show: Packing Up Equipment & Going Home

Here is a cool video from the ISS show this past January. It’s the last one I have to upload I believe so we’ll be back to doing some in shop videos starting with a test and review of the RANAR CBX 2024 tabletop exposure unit. That video will also answer the question of whether you can do halftones with an industrial black lamp exposure unit again. I have the exposure units on hand as you’ll see in this video. Make sure to check out the clip of Predecessor’s tune Skin Deep at the end of the video. Thanks to the guys in the band for providing some killer metal tracks for some Catspit video action. Enjoy!

This is the final ISS screen printing trade show video from Long Beach 2014. This is a vlog style video in which you get to see another glimpse inside RANAR in El Segundo California. I decided to bring back some screen printing equipment to Phoenix, Arizona to offer locally. In this fun and entertaining video you get to take a walk with me through the factory as I pick up some items. The Cat Mobile gets packed up and I ship out on the road to head back home. The trade shows are a lot of fun but they can be expensive to do. So this year I will focus on doing another giveaway in October and perhaps working on local sales for equipment and supplies. Check out the ride home and see the Cat Mobile one more time before it undergoes a sign makeover. We’ll be sure to share that with you too.

ISS Screenprinting Trade Show: Saati Reclaiming & De-Hazing Demo

I was able to get this week’s video edited and uploaded to YouTube. This is a very fun, casual and entertaining demo from the Saati booth at ISS Long Beach 2014. Check out some great products from Saati and see the video description for my Saati picks on the Catspit ecommerce site.

I have been very busy in the shop and office the past few weeks. But I was finally able to print some Catspit Secret Society tee shirts yesterday and they are now available on the Catspit ecommerce site. Show your support for Catspit and my efforts to teach the world screenprinting. I need to get a couple of models to make better images for the website 😉 Know any pretty people in Phoenix?

In this educational screen printing video we take a trip over to the ISS trade show in Long Beach, 2014. The trade show is a great place to learn about screen print technologies, machinery, supplies and innovations for the textile and graphic industry. Saati is awesome for washout booth demos at the show. They always have a working washout booth with drain, water and pressure washer. Here they do many demos during the show hours for visitors to see how their chemicals work. These demos are casual and fun. And they often have free samples of the products they are showing us in their booth. In this video we take a look at a few chemicals such as ER2 and IR8. We also take a look at HR6 which is a very user friendly haze remover. Take a moment and visit with one of the guys form Saati as we take a closer look at this high tech screen printing equipment. Then click the links below to see our recommended Saati products for plastisol inks and textile screen printers.

ISS Screenprinting Trade Show: The Saati Pneumatic Screen Stretcher

Here is my second ISS screenprinting trade show video. In this one we take another look at the Saati booth and get a demo of their pneumatic screen stretcher. Dave Ramirez was nice enough to oblige us for a second explanation of this screen printing product for larger shops. I think we have one or 2 more show videos for you in the next 2 weeks. Thanks again for all your time and attention! Enjoy 🙂

In this educational screen printing video we take a trip over to the ISS trade show in Long Beach, 2014. The trade show is a great place to learn about screen print technologies, machinery, supplies and innovations for the textile and graphic industry. One of the things we like best is being able to show you the automatic equipment that larger, high volume print shops use to get the job done. Here you will see an automatic screen stretcher for making screens which allows for very consistent screen stretching. This is the type of unit that goes well in a large shop with multiple shifts of different people making large numbers of screens each day. It makes it possible to stretch screens very tightly without distorting mesh fibers or tearing corners. The usual methods of coaxing a stretch are unnecessary with this set up. Take a moment and visit with one of the guys form Saati as we take a closer look at this high tech screen printing equipment.

ISS Screenprinting Trade Show: The Saati Automatic Screen Coater

Here is a video from the recent ISS show in long beach, 2014. I decided to go at the last minute but I admit I will be going to fewer shows in the future. They are very costly to do and I need to watch my budget if I want to open a store front for teaching screenprinting. I am thinking about opening a space near my home in Phoenix to expand my offerings locally. Stay tuned for more on that as it happens but in the meantime enjoy this very cool video about an automatic screen scoop coater.

In this educational screen printing video we take a trip over to the ISS trade show in Long Beach, 2014. Here you will see an automatic scoop coater for making screens which allows for very consistent emulsion coating. This is the type of unit that goes well in a large shop with multiple shifts of different people. It makes it possible to have the same coating job done on all screens throughout the work week no matter who is working the machine. It also will coat screens with a high degree of technical accuracy in relation to emulsion over mesh and stencil thickness. Take a moment and visit with one of the guys form Saati as we take a closer look at this high tech screen printing equipment.
