Screenprinting Tee Shirts: Using The Sweet Spot On Your Screens

I have to say the Catspit learn how to screen print forum is a great place for video ideas. This video is such an example. There are many great questions posted to the Catspit forum. I encourage you to use the forum to post your questions because it is very difficult to answer them in detail in a YouTube comment. I am sorry to say I can’t do a video answer for every question but I will create videos based on some of the posts on the forum. So if you want to see a video come to life, post the question you want answered on the forum. If I don’t answer it there someone else will and if it is a popular enough topic I may create a video about it.

The new video is called, “Screenprinting Tee Shirts: Using The Sweet Spot On Your Screens.” This educational video was inspired by the very users of the Catspit Productions learn how to screen print tutorial forum on the Catspit website. There were at least two posts that lead many of us to believe it might be time to discuss how big of a design you should put on your screen. Many people these days will demand a much larger print than usually has been done in the past for screen printing logo wear and other garments. So we find that many new screen printers and probably some experienced but not well seasoned printers will max out the size of any given design to near the edges of the screen frame. In this educational video about screenprinting tee shirts Jonathan shares with you his knowledge of the “sweet spot” on the screen with you. This will teach you how to properly place your film positives on the screen so as to avoid the frame edges and thus on press printing problems. You’ll learn about the different mesh tensions a screen can have in different places on the mesh. And you’ll find out why. If you’re having any issues with too much ink and/or too little on the same design and perhaps bleeding, flooding or poor coverage, you may want to watch this video.

Happy, Happy How To Screen Print Birthday To Me

I am happy to announce the 4th birthday of Catspit Productions on YouTube. It’s been a wild ride and it certainly isn’t over yet but I feel change in the air. One thing I have learned is you can expect the unexpected daily. So it’s almost like knowing that you will be faced with challenges always. When you’re running a very small business like myself that has become a threat to bigger corporations for no real reason it can be difficult to stay focused. I should be of no concern to anyone as I inadvertently help all screen print suppliers sell more product. My work helps people learn to screen print. It introduces new people to screen printing. That creates demand for print supplies and equipment. So you would think all the major suppliers would support me in one way or another. But the truth is they don’t. Many see me as competition for some strange reason. So I have to count on you guys. The Catspit audience. You are the people to whom I am most loyal. Thank you for your continued support!

The new video is called, “Happy, Happy How To Screen Print Birthday To Me.” It’s been a long time since Catspit Productions uploaded its first screen printing educational video to YouTube. In fact last February 20th marked the 4 year anniversary to the day. On February 20th 2009 the first Catspit video was uploaded to YouTube. After 4 years online we have endured many obstacles and challenges some of which almost ended out project. But thanks to the support of our audience and our immediate friends and family we have made it through to this very day. But change is always upon us and you never know what life will throw at you next. If we can get snow covered roads in Phoenix during the winter then we can not be surprised at anything that happens. It is these things that will shape the course of our future. The very actions of outside forces will shape who we become tomorrow. But please know this; Catspit Productions isn’t going anywhere no matter whom does what or what does whom.

Heavy Metal Music Screenprinting Guitar Riff by Taylor Wright

As promised a very special YouTube video for you all today. Meet Taylor William Wright. He remade our Catspit intro music. I stumbled upon him when he added me as a contact so I check out his YouTube channel and discovered he was a very good undiscovered guitar talent. His channel was also small enough that I figured if I asked him to produce a score for me that he actually would respond and help out…. LOL. You know how these giant YouTube channels can be amazingly silent other than uploads. In other words I wouldn’t have approached a guitarist on YouTube with 500,000 subscribers because most likely I never would get a response 😉 Anyway if you want the full scoop on this video then read the video description or stay tuned for Monday’s video.

This video is called, “Heavy Metal Music Screenprinting Guitar Riff by Taylor Wright.” It’s been a long time since Catspit Productions uploaded its first screen printing educational video to YouTube. In fact last February 20th marked the 4 year anniversary to the day. On February 20th 2009 the first Catspit video was uploaded to YouTube. I figured it was time to give the videos a makeover and redesign the intro and outro video clips. The current intro features a very simple, rough yet hardcore guitar rhythm by Jonathan. He actually performs it for the intro clip recording. But Jonathan is no professional guitarist and it was time to remedy that. So welcome Taylor Wright. He was kind enough to produce a new musical clip based on the old one. He was instructed to create a new intro audio clip that was reminiscent of the original score by Jonathan. We’ll here is the video he made for us explaining what he came up with and telling us a little about his creative process. In this video you’ll get to hear the new musical clip before it appears in any new Catspit videos. In fact the video portion of this project won’t be complete for another week or so.

MacDermid Autotype Screen Printing Emulsion Giveaway Winners!

Okay so I have been ultra-busy working on several new projects the past few weeks. I am excited to bring them out as soon as I am ready. The new Catspit Start Up Kits will be available soon and I have an extra special video lined up for this Friday. I have to say the people on YouTube who make a living producing videos must have a ton of fun doing so because I’m nowhere near that level and I’m having a blast. I can only imagine what I could do if video making was my main revenue generator. Oh yeah that would be sick 😉 In a good way of course. But in the meantime check out this cool new and entertaining video to see who won the 4 free gallons of MacDermid Autotype emulsions. Check it!

The new YouTube video is called, “MacDermid Autotype Screen Printing Emulsion Giveaway Winners!” It’s a week later and it’s time to announce the winners in this fun screen printing video. As you know last week we did a video giveaway for some MacDermid Autotype photopolymer emulsion. All you had to do was comment on the video and you were entered to win 1 free gallon of emulsion shipped to you by Catspit Productions. We had a great response to this video with over 200 comments being left with well wishes and thank you notes for all the screenprinting videos we have produced on YouTube. The generous kind words from you all warmed our hearts and made us want to send everyone free emulsion. We even thought of sending out shirts until we calculated the cost of such an endeavor… LOL 😉 So we thank you all from the bottom of our hearts and know that we will do more freebie giveaway videos in the future to reach as many people around the world as we can. Now watch this video to see who won. Happy screen printing!

Screen Printing ISS Trade Show: Thermal Film Positive Printer

This is a short and sweet video about a thermal printer for making film positives for screen printing tee shirts. This is a more expensive solution for film output but one that is practical for a higher volume shop that still prefers to use film to make screens. Hopefully we will get to make arrangements with Exile Technologies to bring this into the shop so I can make some film output videos with it. I have plans to do some artwork videos with inkjet and thermal film output. I’m just trying to make sure I don’t get into trouble with YouTube by using Illustrator in video. I’m a partner so I have to be wary of things like that even though it appears everyone is doing it 😉

The video is called, “Screen Printing ISS Trade Show: Thermal Film Positive Printer.” This is an ISS show video from Long Beach 2013. In this short video I introduce you to the thermal printer from Exile Technologies. Everyone knows we can make film positives with inkjet printers, laser printers, and image setters but many are unaware of a very cool solution we feel is between inkjet film positives and image setters. Now it is true that inkjet printers will have a much higher resolution than a thermal printer but 600 DPI is plenty sufficient for most spot colors and halftones for screen printing. So it may be argued and it is true that inkjet printers can print a higher resolution but that is because most inkjet printers are designed to print photographs for consumers and professional photographers alike. Therefore I can say with experience that the film positives output from the thermal printer is certainly at a high enough resolution for screenprinting. There are few and rare circumstances that might require a higher resolution in printing film positives for printing tee shirts. At the moment none come to mind but the superior quality of the thermal film positives compared to inkjet is in my opinion a better option. Unfortunately it is also a more expensive option. Stay tuned for more videos on this subject in the future.

ISS Screen Printing Show: New RhinoTech Inkjet Heat Transfer Paper

Another quick ISS show video from RhinoTech. In this educational trade show video you can learn about their new digital inkjet heat transfer paper for tee shirts. I have a lot of fun working the trade shows with the various vendors that sponsor the educational program. I only wish all my vendor sponsors were at the same show at the same time so I could make show videos with all of them. But I do the best I can with what I have to work with so here is the final show video from RhinoTech.

This video is called, “ISS Screen Printing Show: New RhinoTech Inkjet Heat Transfer Paper. “ This tutorial screen printing video is about a new RhinoTech heat transfer product. The paper is called Singlejet and it is designed to work with most standard inkjet printers. This is not a self-weeding transfer paper however the window or ghost left behind should become very soft and almost fad away after the first washing. This transfer paper is a hot peel and presses in half the time of most traditional inkjet heat transfers at only a 15 second press time. In this educational video you’ll get to see a quick demonstration of this transfer paper as Jonathan and Greg press a tee shirt while discussing the paper. If you’re one of the many people interested in inkjet heat transfers then this is an excellent video to watch. You’ll get a good rundown of this new transfer paper works and what you’ll need to do in order to get a successful transfer. You’ll even learn a tip you can use with any inkjet heat transfer paper to eliminate or minimize bleeding when first washed. If you are into digital heat transfer papers and want to learn more about them, this is a perfect video for you.

Please remember you can get RhinoTech products on the Print Supplies page of the Catspit website. Use the Catspit promo code to enjoy 5% off list pricing on supplies. Thanks for your support! Use code    Catspit511   at checkout for 5% off screen printing supplies!

We’ve found HRG² 2400 Haze Remover that is biodegradable and environmentally-sensitive. It’s available in a liquid form and removes imbedded U.V., conventional and plastisol inks that remain on the screen following emulsion removal (haze/ghost images). It effectively lifts the haze and imbedded ink from the mesh, then emulsifies and dissolves the ink resins, binders, pigments, plasticizers, etc. The solution suspends resins so reattachment to the mesh surface is prohibited allowing for water-rinse removal. And it is an incomparable degreaser!

Screen Printing Tip: Caring For Your Prescription Eyeglasses

Here is a quick tip video for those of us who wear eyeglasses and screen print. In this video you can learn how to keep your expensive eyewear safe with a few tips. Once in a while people who wear glasses will ask me how I care for mine when I screen print especially when it comes to the use of spray tack. I figured it was about time to share what I do in order to keep my expensive glasses safe and in good condition. So here is a fun and entertaining video that will help you keep your glasses from getting ruined in the print shop.

The new video is called, “Screen Printing Tip: Caring For Your Prescription Eyeglasses.” This tutorial screen printing video is a quick tips video for those of us who wear eyeglasses and screen print. This is something most people do not think about unless you wear eyeglasses. All of us who are near sighted or far sighted know how expensive prescription eyeglasses can be so this video gives you a few tips on how to protect your costly spectacles while screenprinting tee shirts or other substrates. There are two instances in the screen printing process that may be destructive to high end lenses with premium coatings. We know that spray tack is one of the dangers for eyewear due to the fact that it mists out into the air and settles on most everything in the shop including eyewear. You can simply switch to water based pallet adhesives or you can do what I explain in this entertaining educational video about textile printing. The other instance is when we work with screens in the washout booth. Any splash backs from those chemicals can get onto the lenses of your glasses. Degreasers will be the most benign but what about reclaiming chemicals and haze removers? With these few tips you won’t have to worry about that anymore.
