RhinoTech has introduced SingleStep, a new heat transfer laser paper. The video demonstrates how fast, easy and incredibly simple it is to use this new system and produce professional “looks like it was screen printed” fabrics.

RhinoTech offers this explanation of SingleStep™ that works as a self-weeding paper. Use a single-sheet process to transfer a solid image without the background. Only the toner with colors that are 30% or darker on the grey scale (the image) transfer, not the background film. The image appears as if it were screen-printed onto the textile.

SingleStep can be used on most color laser copiers or color laser printers (both the older low temperature color laser copiers/printers that use fuser oil and the newer high temperature color laser copiers/printers that do not use fuser oil).  SingleStep will not work on ink jet printers. SingleStep can also be used…

How To Screen Print: 1 Hour Of Reclaiming Screens In 5 Minutes

I have been very busy in the shop lately and with the internet work as well. We’re about to have a big change on the website with our anchor vendor on August 1st. So I have been busy getting ready to make that change online. That means some videos will also be privatized as our current anchor vendor leaves us. I will remake some videos for your educational benefit. Therefore we have some videos for you right now that show some actual labor in the Catspit screen printing shop.

The video is called, “How To Screen Print: 1 Hour Of Reclaiming Screens In 5 Minutes.” This is a time lapse or fast motion video about reclaiming screens for screen printing. In this video you get to see an hours’ worth of reclaiming work in less than five minutes. This is a fun video to watch as Jonathan moves like Flash Gordon to remove tape, ink and then emulsion in order to get these screens ready for mesh preparation. It’s a great educational video in that it demonstrates how much effort is put into screen making. Remember after this the screens have to be degreased and then coated with emulsion. That means another round in the washout booth, drying, coating with emulsion and drying. It defiantly shows why the process is better suited for higher volume printing. And it shows you how the worst part of the screen printing process looks in reality. This is actual labor in the Catspit shop getting ready for incoming print jobs.

How To Screen Print: 2 Color Catspit T-Shirt Printing With Flash

Since we have some big changes coming to the Catspit Productions website’s Print Supplies page this August I am very busy printing right now. I took a few rather large jobs that I might not have taken if things had gone a little differently lately. So that means less time for educational videos but since I am an actual screen printer who makes a living by screen printing commercially I am able to bring you some other videos that show you exactly how I work and what I do in my small 500 square foot shop. These types of videos end up being pretty popular on YouTube so it’s all good. For some reason people want to see the shirts being printed more than anything else. I can understand that but I would also want to have an explanation of what’s going on…. therefore these videos will complement our screenprinting video collection very well I think. I hope you al enjoy this one as it’s one of my favorites for showing printing in action.

This is another Action & Entertainment screen printing video called, “How To Screen Print: 2 Color Catspit T-Shirt Printing With Flash” from Catspit Productions, LLC! This educational video is actually a follow up to the set up and test print of the same design:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rujchkiS-aA

Then I showed you how I might rotate the same 2 color design here:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6ouCbQJRlMQ

In this tutorial video I actually print some shirts in full swing with rotation, loading and unloading shirts with the flash cure station active and running a little hot… LOL. So essentially in this video you get to see how to rotate a manual rotary screenprinting press with a 2 color design and a flash station. This is a fast motion video but just enough to make it fun to watch. You can still get a great look at exactly what I am doing on press and I think this video ties in the previous 2 quite well. The video gives you a great view of the entire press and flash cure station so you can see how the rotation provides for “cool down” stations. That way by the time the shirt makes a full rotation after the first color the ink and tee have cooled enough to proceed printing the second color without any problems caused by hot ink.

How To Screen Print T Shirts: Low Cost Inkjet Vellum As Film Positives?

So here it is. I really had envisioned this video much differently than it turned out. I was so bummed to discover what I did when I tried completing the video and it was very frustrating. It seemed like such a simple little thing but you know how things go for us common folk. Sometimes I think like, “How can they put men on the Moon when I can’t make the Catspit clock stay on the wall in the shop?” And I don’t mean that like I am stupid but I’m just saying things seem so difficult at times right here on Earth… it fell off the wall the other day 🙂 Do you believe they really landed on the Moon? No never mind…. LOL that would open up a can of worms and you all I know they did 🙂 Anyway you should check out this video suggested by YouTube user KentuckyArtist. It should at least entertain you.

This video called, “How To Screen Print T Shirts: Low Cost Inkjet Vellum As Film Positives?” is another tutorial video in which I share a product a YouTube user told me about. KentuckyArtist told me about inkjet vellum which in my time in the screen printing industry I had never really heard of and never used. I thought this would be a great product to share with all you home based screen printers and hobbyists. This is inkjet vellum available at a local retailer in the United Sates and you may be able to order it online if you live outside the US. However I had a technical issue which prevented me from printing the inkjet vellum with my Epson Stylus Photo 1400. I believe the CD printer tray jammed up the thicker inkjet vellum. To learn all about what happened and if this product could work for you make sure to watch the video today.

Screenprinting: How Long Do Screen Printed Tee Shirts Last?

So I get asked this question almost weekly because of the intense advertising campaigns of Direct to Garment manufacturers and heat transfer companies. They constantly claim that their method is as fast and as cost effective as screen printing. Not only that they think those processes can do all the same things screen printing can do and that is simply not true at all on all counts. If you want to know my personal thoughts on this matter and get a definitive answer from someone that has the 20 year old plus screen printed shirts to show you then keep reading.

The video is called, “Screenprinting: How Long Do Screen Printed Tee Shirts Last?” This is an educational video about screen printing in which I tell you a little more about my personal history screenprinting tee shirts. My father has been involved with screen printing for a long time and that is partly why I am able to do what I do but my brother also has had a screen printing shop in NY for over 25 years. I have a lot of resources at my disposal and in this video you’ll learn how I first started printing T shirts with my Uncle in the basement of my father’s house when I was how old? You find out in this video which shows you some screen printed t shirts and sweat shirts or fleece garments about 20 years ago. Finally get the answer to the question you have need asking yourself as you think about how to go about starting your own garment embellishing company.

How To Screen Print: 1 Color Catspit Promotional Tee Shirt Printing

I have been getting a lot of requests for Catspit tee shirts as many of you know I give some away to my YouTube subscribers now and then. It’s been very hot here this past June. And July is a bit humid right now on top of that. I ended up printing these during the day when it was very hot. But I figured it would be an easy video to make that would be a lot of fun to watch for you all. And it’s a great demonstration of printing a 1 color design on a rotary screen printing press with a belt dryer.

This educational screen printing video is called, “How To Screen Print: 1 Color Catspit Promotional Tee Shirt Printing.”  You get to see me at work printing some freebees. I had some shirts left over from the days when I sold some tees on EBay that I now use for promotional giveaways. I decided to print the Catspit Secret Society logo on the back since I send these all over the world for free. I figured I deserved a little branding for the freebees. You can watch me print a couple of dozen shirts in fast motion but not so fast that you can’t see what’s going on. I printed these during the day which is very hot here this time of year so you see how sweaty I get by the time the print run is complete. You tend to get hot and bothered when your under wear gets as wet from sweat as if you were just in the pool. So at the end I throw my shirt off in disgust for the heat 😦

Screen Printing: 2 Color With Flash & Rotation On Manual Press

I figured since we just output the film and did a video about how to set up this 2 color design using the film positives we should take a look at how the job would be printed with a flash cure on a manual rotary screen printing press. Now this video came out a little long and I had to trim out some funny outtakes on my part in order to fit into the 15 minute time limit YouTube imposes on me even though I am a partner. Actually I am supposed to be able to upload videos longer than 15 minutes as a partner but I’d rather check on that first before going through all the trouble and then having the upload fail. And I think 15 minutes is probably the most time I could possibly keep your attention for… LOL 🙂 So this new video takes a “quick” look at how the job would actually be printed on a rotary textile press.

The video is called, “Screen Printing: 2 Color With Flash & Rotation On Manual Press.” This is a detailed 15 minute tutorial video about how to print a 2 color design with a flash cure. In this video you will learn about what it takes to set up and time your rotation during a flash printing job. The video shows how the first color is printed and rotated around the press until you come back to the first shirt printed. Then it demonstrates how to proceed to print the second color then unload and load a new shirt to start the process over again. The key factor you will learn from this video is when and how to time your flash cure. In the video you will see that it is the unloading and loading portion of the printing process that will determine your dwell time. This is sometimes referred to as the index time. This is the first educational video in a group that will be done on how to rotate your manual rotary screen printing press with a multi-color print job. Some of those videos will also include registration and set up. Stay tuned….

Thanks for dropping by the blog and checking out what I have been up to. I appreciate your time and attention greatly. Learn how to screen print for fun or for profit!

Screen Printing Product Review: RhinoTech’s Spray Tack & Screen Opener

I think this has been the latest upload to YouTube yet. Just before 12 midnight last night I uploaded a new educational screen printing video which is a product review. The holiday week screwed things up a bit with my schedule and it actually rained most of the day on the 4th here and it was very cool but humid. Since it was rainy and gloomy yet very cool I decided to print some orders during the day which I try very hard not to do. But on this 4th of July it was a perfect printing day. Eventually late in the afternoon it started to clear up and by night fall it was perfect weather for fireworks displays.

The new video is called, “Screen Printing Product Review: RhinoTech’s Spray Tack & Screen Opener.” This tutorial screen printing video is a product review about RhinoTech’s aerosol product line. In this educational screen printing video we introduce you to their mist pallet tack and the web pallet tack for printing fleece. You will also get to take a look at the spray patterns of each of these spray tacks. Then we discuss the two types of screen openers they make. One is for standard plastisol inks and the other is made specifically for water based ink. And the kicker is the water based screen opener is ecofriendly as well as user friendly. If you liked the Rhinotech environmentally safe screen making chemicals then you should enjoy this video very much especially if you use water based inks. So if you are looking into aerosol products then this is a great video to help you learn about screen printing consumables used in printing tee shirts.
