Hot Rodding With Catspit & RANAR: 1970 SS 454 Big Block Chevelle

This is another very personal video in which I share my friendship with RANAR with you all. I think David Walker of RANAR and I have a lot more in common than we realize. On my latest trip to do the Las Vegas & Long Beach screen printing trade shows I learned he actually owned my dream car! Holy big blocks Batman! What are the chances of that? We have been working together for probably almost 3 to 4 years and he must have gotten this car when we first started working together selling RANAR screen printing equipment. David is a super guy and took the Chevelle out of its personal nesting place just to make this video with me. He even let me take it for a spin 🙂 So follow us a long on a cruise through southern California and if the video keeps your attention long enough you’ll get to see a pretty decent impromptu smoke show or burnout as it were! About the 1970 SS Chevelle:

1970 saw the introduction of the most powerful Chevelle SS of all time. Responding to the lifting of GM’s ban on engines larger than 400 cid in midsize cars, Chevrolet responded by dropping in a new 454 cubic engine into its Chevelle SS. The entry level 454 was known as the LS5 and packed 360bhp. The top engine choice was the LS6 version with 450bhp. The LS6 had a 800-cfm Holley four barrel on an aluminum manifold, 11.25:1 compression, solid lifters, four-bolt mains, forged steel crank and connecting rods, forged aluminum pistons, and deep-groove accessory pullies. No production engine ever had a higher factory horsepower rating. The standard Chevelle SS 396 continued with its 402 cid engines, although the 325bhp was dropped and the 350bhp version was now standard. Optional on both the 396 and 454 was a new cowl-induction hood, which had a rear facing flapper near the base of the windshield to feed air into the engine. The styling was new with a “vee” front end, functional hood pins, and five-spoke Rally wheels. This was truly the pinnacle of the Chevelle SS performance.

NBM Printwear Show: Catspit Interviews Lon Winters Pro Screen Printer

This is one of the very cool show videos I did on the Catspit 2012 Screen Printing Tour. I spent 9 days on the road and did the ISS show in Vegas as well as the NBM show in Long Beach. It was a long trip and very exhausting. I returned late Monday night and although I tried to work very hard to catch up on things today I was so tired I ended up having to take a nap after editing, rendering and uploading this new Catspit educational screenprinting video.

The Catspit Screen Printing Trade Show Tour 2012

Here are 2 videos I mad while on the Catspit Trade Show Tour 2012… LOL. Ten days on the road and two trade shows. First it was ISS in Las Vegas for 3 days plus travel. Then it was on to NBM long Beach for 5 days plus travel because I always teach a class when I work the shows with RANAR in Long Beach. We host very informal, personal and very hands on training classes at RANAR in El Segundo. This is the type of class you really get to see what it will be like to screen print tee shirts on any commercial production level manually.

Totally New Website!

For anyone who doesn’t know yet the Catspit Productions website has been totally rebuilt, redesigned, and upgraded. New Screen Printing Forum!

A new learn how to screen print forum has also been added to the website. This forum has been designed and set up around the basic steps of the screen printing process. Categories and topics are based on different parts of the screenprinting method. The forum is there for you to help each other learn how to screenprint T-shirts. You’re encouraged to use the form to ask questions about screen printing rather than e-mailing me directly. This way everyone will benefit from the time and effort I take to answer individual questions that would now be public on the forum. However, you may still ask questions by e-mail through the website Contact Us form. Questions asked on the forum are answered before any questions are answers by e-mail. Questions by e-mail are answered chronologically and can take up to one week for a response. Check out the forum today and sign up if you haven’t already.

How To Screen Print: Choosing Your Mesh Count

Here is the first of a few remake videos from some older ones that are no longer available on my channel. A while back I made a video about how to choose your mesh count featuring brand name screens. This time around I used an assortment of screens I had in my shop that I purchased from different vendors from out Print Supplies page. I wanted to make sure you didn’t miss out on the educational benefits of that video even though the original was a promotional video. Of course I always try to plug one Catspit venue or another…. LOL 🙂

The video called, “How To Screen Print: Choosing Your Mesh Count” is a remake video about tips and advice on choosing your mesh count for screen printing textiles with plastisol inks. In this video we run through an array of mesh counts that I personally keep on hand in my shop for everyday work. You’ll get to hear some facts about mesh counts and emulsion thickness, ink flow, tightness and more. This video should give you a basic understanding of the different mesh counts and their characteristics. Learn about mesh counts like 110, 156, 200, 230, and 305 or 355. How To Screen Print: Tee Shirt Sleeve Printing Tips

As many of you may know I have been very busy with screen printing jobs but I had a job in house that allowed me to do an excellent tutorial video on sleeve printing tips. I brought in a decent amount of print work in the shop to compensate for the dip in earnings online due to the recent anchor vendor change. I have to say printing tee shirts is like printing money sometimes. That is not to say I am ripping off my customers at all. LOL…. Rather when a job is priced fairly and well planned it can be easy to produce a high quality product from which you earn a decent living for the amount of labor put into the print work. Many customers don’t realize the amount or prep work and consideration it takes to plan a print job well. Anyway on to the new video….

How To Screen Print: Coating 12 Screens In Less Than 12 Minutes

Okay so here is another action video about coating screens with emulsion. I have been very busy as usual and I may have overlooked some comments on Facebook it seems. As I went comment chasing to reply to things posted over the weekend I found older comments on wall photos I had never seen. I think I am not always getting my messages from FB about comments and messages. So I apologize to anyone who posted a comment a year ago and just got a response today 😦 LOL…. sorry. Anyway on to the latest and greatest screen printing video…

The new tutorial video is called, “How To Screen Print: Coating 12 Screens In Less Than 12 Minutes.” This is a very cool video done in real time. In this educational screen printing video I coat 12 screens in less than 12 minutes. This is an excellent tutorial video on screenprinting because you get to see my methodology in coating screens in large numbers. Even though I do not speak in this video, you will really get a good idea of what it is like to have to keep screens ready in your shop. Having a light safe screen rack like I have is great for storing emulsion coated screens after they are finished drying. I cannot tell you how important it is to have screens ready to go when you run a commercial screen printing shop yourself or with little or no help. I usually keep about 20 screens coated and ready to go in this drying cabinet and whenever I need more screens as long as I have the space I can add the newly coated screens to the storage box with some already dry ones left over from the last coating session. The wet, freshly coated screens will not bother the ones that are already dry. And if you let the screens dry overnight like I usually do, you should have no problem with humidity or moisture in the emulsion prior to exposure. Learn how to screen print for fun or for profit!
