Screen Printing: Coating Screens In 110 Degrees, No Darkroom!

Check out this fun production video! I had to coat some screens over the weekend in 110 degree weather! Who wants to come and work in Hell’s Print Shop?  Yikes! Overall this was a good bulk coating session despite the heat. I know many of our tropical and warmer region printers are used to printing barefoot with no shirt so I am not alone. Oh and don’t forget to rate thumbs up since my haters are already thumbing this one down…. LOL. I thought this would be a cool video so you can see how sometimes we do what it takes to get the job done but you can’t please them all 😉

This video is called, “Screen Printing: Coating Screens In 110 Degrees, No Darkroom!” Here is a fun production video about coating screens for screenprinting tee shirts. I have had several jobs come in in the past few weeks and it was necessary to do a bulk screen coating session. In this video you’ll come along for the first 7 or 8 screens in this video. In Arizona it has been in the low 100’s often reaching 108 or 110 degrees F in the afternoon. Sometimes my timing is off and I cannot wait until the wee hours of the morning to work like I normally do. Therefore it is often the case that I work in the peak of the heat during the day. When this video was made it peaked out at 110 degrees F. That’s how it goes here in the desert and on any given day you can find me in the shop working barefoot with no shirt running back and forth from the pool to the shop. I think I’m going to create a new endurance sport called Pool Printing. So if you want to see me at my obsessive compulsive best then this video will be perfect for you.

Screen Printing T-Shirts: Creating 1 Color Halftone Artwork With Spot Colors

This is it! The long awaited 1 color halftone video with artwork instruction, tips, advice and a walkthrough in Illustrator. I have been telling you all I would get to this sooner or later and I finally had some time to put this together. I… had to come up with some artwork just to make for this video so I chose a rather controversial topic with a Ben Franklin patriotic type quotation which reflects on our Founding Father’s original vision of this country and what it really is today. Don’t worry I have no political agenda and you can interpret the design for yourself without judgment 😉 This is the artwork video. Next up; the printing video. This video is called, “Screen Printing T-Shirts: Creating 1 Color Halftone Artwork With Spot Colors.”

This is another very awesome educational video by Catspit Productions. This one is a long awaited and a much demanded topic about creating 1 color halftones in Illustrator. In this tutorial screenprinting video Jonathan will show you how he sets up his black and white halftones with spot colors using an image modified in Photoshop which is imported into Illustrator. Here he will explain a few things about doing this before he shows you what to do in the graphic software in order to get a halftone film positive. For this you’ll need a computer, vector art software, RIP software, an inkjet printer and inkjet film positives. Then you’ll need a photograph that you can manipulate in an image program like Photoshop or Gimp. Jonathan will show you the rest and no matter what software you use his teaching style will enable you to do this for yourself with a little hard work. This is another very fun run through of halftone screen printing with black inks on a white tee shirt. One more thing, you’ll also get a peek into how to print the same design on black tee shirts. Who loves you baby?

Learn Silk Screenprinting: Forum Contributor Shout Out!

Here it is boys and girls. As promised a new screen printing video for your viewing pleasure. This is a fun video that may help you out when washing out your screens. Many people do not realize what the problem is when they washout a screen… and try to print with it only to see the ink being blocked even though the screen mesh looks clear. Has this happened to you? Have you ever washed out a screen only to find it is clogged? Did the screen look clean and clear with open mesh in the stencil areas? If so then this video will definitely help you out. I’ll say it again, if you have ever experienced a clogged screen after washing out the stencil this video is a must see!

The new video is called, “Learn Silk Screenprinting: Forum Contributor Shout Out!” In this video you will learn about scum and film that may be left behind after washing out your stencil in the washout booth. Most often this filming or scum that is left in the screen mesh after washout is clear but it will clog the mesh and prevent your inks form printing well. This is actually underexposed emulsion and it is common on the inkwell side of screens especially with industrial fluorescent exposure units. There are two easy ways to deal with this problem and neither of them involves newsprint. Never place newsprint on wet emulsion. If it is very wet or slightly underexposed it will stick and create a mess. In this educational screenprinting video Jonathan will show you the two best ways to clear water out of the stencil mesh openings. One method we use in the Catspit shop, the other we demonstrate for your learning benefit. Remember, Catspit Productions offers screen printing supplies and equipment sales so please contact us for assistance. Your patronage helps support the continued production of free screen printing videos on YouTube.

Creating Screen Printing Artwork & Film: Simple One Color Spot Designs

Here is the fourth installment of my very simple introduction to Illustrator for creating vector art for screen printing. This is the artwork video that the previous 3 art videos hopefully prepared you for. It is a very simple look at what you’ll need to do in your vector art software such as Illustrator or Corel Draw in order to be able to create spot color art and output film positives. This video features tips on creating the design and outputting film positives for screen making. This tutorial video was made well before the 3 previous videos using a newer version of Illustrator and screen capture software that barely worked. But it is a valuable educational video for anyone just starting to create screenprinting artwork for making tee shirts.

The new video is called, “Creating Screen Printing Artwork: Simple One Color Spot Designs. “ This is a 40 minute long tutorial video about how to create very simple 1 color vector artwork for screen printing tee shirts. Here you will learn how to assemble spot color designs in Illustrator. In this very simple instructional video you’ll see me play with and build 3 very simple pieces of artwork. This video will help you become familiar with what you need to do in Illustrator while creating your artwork so that you’ll have an easier time outputting better film positives. In fact you’ll also learn some about film output and what you’ll need to do that. This video is actually the “artwork” chapter from a DVD that I was shooting for a vendor we used to work with. Well, the DVD was cancelled and even though it may be a bit of a loss for the entire project it certainly is a gain for our YouTube audience. This video also has tips for film positive output with an Epson 1400 inkjet printer. Enjoy this wonderfully simple and easy to understand fourth edition in my introduction to Illustrator for total beginners.

Heavy Duty Pressure Washer For Screen Printing Tee Shirts

Here it is guys and gals! The RhinoTech HD pressure washer review video for your viewing pleasure. I was finally able to make this video after figuring out where to put the unit in my shop. I still have to get a table to raise the unit up to waist level for easy access to the power switch but this pressure washer is awesome. I don’t think I’ll ever have to buy another. Ever. If you’re in the market for a heavy duty pressure washer or you need to research them to find out what is best for your needs then this is a perfect video to watch.

The new tutorial video is called, “Heavy Duty Pressure Washer For Screen Printing Tee Shirts.” This is the long awaited product review video for the RhinoSpray Model 1500A Heavy Duty Pressure Washer. The unit is a 1450 PSI pressure washer with adjustable pressure and adjustable spray gun nozzle. With this unit you can calibrate your pressure using a pressure knob on the top of the unit. You can use that to raise or lower the water pressure accordingly to the job you are working on. It also has a spray nozzle on the gun that can be turned form pin point to wide fan for versatility in the washout booth. Use the pinpoint for trouble areas and the wide fan for easily reclaimable screens by taking them out in 2 or 3 passes. In this video we demonstrate the unit working in the washout booth. You’ll get to see this unit work as we actually reclaim a screen and test out the spray nozzle. This unit is very quiet compared to other “home owner’s” units. But this pressure washer does not have an auto off function since that would inevitably break. Therefore you need to place this unit where you can reach the power switch.
