Screen Printing: Coating & Storing Screens Without A Darkroom

We made it through the wormhole Captain. Print work done and delivered, deposits made and shop cleaned up… somewhat 🙂 AND a new educational screen printing video has been uploaded to YouTube! It was like some time warp and I was in like 5 different places at once. This video answers a question I have been getting asked repeatedly for some time now. A causality loop? Wait, what? So I think we’ll see another screenprinting video later this week; maybe a just for fun one or maybe another request.

This is a really cool educational and tutorial screen printing video is called, “Screen Printing: Coating & Storing Screens Without A Darkroom.” This one is about how I have no dedicated darkroom for my commercial screen printing shop. The fact is you don’t really need one unless you’re some massive high volume printer. This video takes you on a tour of how we coat and store our screens for drying. We also discuss the storage of the screens after they are dry. The video actually is a referral to the original video in which we built this homemade drying box with a drying rack, gaffers tape and corrugated plastic. By adding light baffles and allowing for ventilation we created a light safe drying rack that eliminates the need for a dark room. Get a better idea of how it all works in this instructional video. If you’ve ever wanted to print at home this video may solve some problems for you and give you some ideas on how to do it where you live. Learn how to screen print for fun or for profit!

I have been so busy with print work lately that I have been struggling to keep up with internet tasks and making new videos. But I vow not to give up as long as I can make a living doing it; So like I always say, thank you so much for your time and attention. Learn how to screen print with Catspit Productions, LLC!

How To Screen Print: Washout Booth Environmental Filtration Unit

Finally I was able to get everything together and finish the installation of the unit plus I made the second part to the video that Greg Markus and I started a few months ago. This is a very informative video. It may not be the most entertaining video but you will get a great understanding of how the M10 filtration system works and how it can benefit your city water treatment system or septic system. Catspit Productions would like to thank Greg and RhinoTech once again for providing the filtration unit to us in order to become environmentally compliant and share the information with you all.

The video is called, “How To Screen Print: Washout Booth Environmental Filtration Unit.” This screen printing educational video features Greg Markus of RhinoTech and the M10 filtration unit. Now that’s not the M5 from Star Trek for all you nerds like me. It’s an environmental filtration unit designed to filter waste water from the drain in your washout booth. In this video Greg explains how the simple system works, the variations on draining the unit and the benefits of using such a water filtration unit. You’ll get to see the unit before it is installed and see the innards as we discuss the functions. It’s a basic “coffee filter” type system that can trap particulates 5 microns in size or bigger, anything smaller than 5 microns will settle in the first tank of the unit before the filtered water is pumped into the drain. If you are concerned about being eco safe and complying with local laws and environmental regulations then this is another must see video

Screen Printing Tip: Amazing Spray Can Paint Thinner!

Well due to some unforeseen complications around my home and shop I was unable to install the RhinoTech M10 filtration system under the washout booth in time to make the videos for today. I have several print jobs in house and I am very busy online as usual. But I really wanted to upload a video today and I have to think that the product featured in this video has existed in other brands before but I never seemed to notice it. It was just something I noticed at Home Depot the other day and I bought a can and I like it! What am I talking about? Read on…

The latest educational screenprinting video uploaded to YouTube is called, “Screen Printing Tip: Amazing Spray Can Paint Thinner!” This video is a bit of a satire of the old Billy Mays style infomercials, may he rest in peace. But it does give you an update on what video is coming up next week and it also introduces you to something new I found at the hardware store. Evidently you can get paint thinner in a spray paint type can. That’s right! Spray aerosol paint thinner! I had never seen this stuff before and maybe it was just new for that brand but I never noticed this type of product in all my paint thinner purchases. LOL… what does that say of me? Don’t laugh at that because you’ll probably laugh at my infomercial satire anyway.

Alright so here it is. I worked late last night to finish this video for you all. In this one you’ll actually get to see some shots of the shop that you rarely get to see. It’s all about the basic set up and usage of the flash cure unit. I had some lighting and sound issues with this one because I was moving around the shop and shooting in places I normally do not. But I think it still came out decent enough and most importantly it is very informative. I hope you all take the time to check out my latest screen printing educational video free on YouTube as always!

How To Screen Print: Metallic Transfer Foil On Black T Shirts

So I finally got around to making this new screen printing video about metallic heat transfer foil. I meant to do this a long time ago but I didn’t have any jobs for it so I wasn’t willing to buy the products needed to do it just for a video. I ended up getting a free sample of some unknown brand of the foil adhesive and the foil itself. In the past I have used good products I think because I never had foil peel like this stuff did. It wasn’t clean and it had extra metal foil in places it shouldn’t have been. But after I brushed it off with my hand it seemed fine. It was rather strange and I can only attribute it to the quality of the foil I was using. It actually makes the video much more informative after all because this problem happens to many people as I understand.

This screen printing educational video is called, “How To Screen Print: Metallic Transfer Foil On Black T Shirts” and goes through a rundown on the printed adhesive and transfer foil effect. Here you will learn about the plastisol foil adhesive and how to screenprint it onto the shirt before applying the foil. The adhesive is printed directly onto the tee shirt and cured in this video. You’ll get to see the shirts go through the oven to cure the printed foil adhesive design and go to the heat press. At the heat press you’ll see the shirts get the metallic transfer foil pressed to the printed foil adhesive. Come along on this fantastic voyage as we learn that some transfer foils do not transfer as cleanly as others. At the end of the video you’ll get to see close up shots of the finished metallic foiled print and hear Jonathan’s thoughts on this particular transfer foil. Do It Yourself Hinge Clamp Screen Printing Board

So I finally got around to making this video about hinge clamps. There are so many people who ask me about simple print jobs that would call for the use of hinge clamps I thought I should make a video and share it with you all. I am so busy right now that I am making the videos the same day they are uploaded. Unless I need to do a retake of course this still happens and is totally disappointing. But in the end the reshoot always turns out much better than the first failure. Now this video went very well and did not require any retakes at all. Thanks the heavens because I really wanted to upload it today.

The new video is called, “Do It Yourself Hinge Clamp Screen Printing Board.” In this educational screen printing video you will learn about what hinge clamps are and how to use them to create a simple, cheap and effective screen printing board for printing at home. Hinge clamps are simple device you can use on table tops or free boards in order to screen print 1 color designs without the cost of a professional press. In the video we go over the hinge clamps, where to get them and how to set them up on a board for printing flatwork or tee shirts. The video also discusses the off contact issue with hinge clamps and how to deal with it. You get to see the screws used to fasten the clamps to the board and you get to see the drilling of the starter holes for the screws. Then we screw the clamps in and Jonathan shows you how the rig works.

So once again thanks a lot for stopping by the blog and having a read. I appreciate your support and I hope this new video turns out to be helpful to you. Learn how to screen print with Catspit Productions, LLC!

How To Screen Print: Tips On Using Plastisol Curable Reducer

Once again I have been very busy with the new screen printing educational forum on the new Catspit Productions website. But I was still able to make this quick tip video for you all. It’s funny because when I first started doing these “quick tip” videos I intended for them to be five minutes or less. But that did not work out the way I planned in the end. But I think the videos are very informational and I rather they be a little long than too short and perhaps not so helpful. I know many of you would probably prefer shorter videos but just know I’m giving you more information this way and it would be a million times harder to do the same job in less time.

In this educational screen printing video called “How To Screen Print: Tips On Using Plastisol Curable Reducer” Jonathan guides you through a tour of how to use curable reducers for plastisol inks. In the video we discuss the inks themselves as well as what adding the reducer does to the qualities of the ink. Learn about what curable reducers are really intended for and why they shouldn’t be used with high opacity plastisol inks when printing on dark garments. This video teaches you about the properties of shear, ink flow and coverage while examining plastisol curable reducers. See what the reducer looks like as it is mixed into some black plastisol ink. You will also hear suggestions on usage and what to use when you really just want to thin out your plastisol inks. If you have ever thought about adding reducer to your high opacity white ink before printing it directly onto black tee shirts, then you should watch this video today.
