Catspit Productions Helps Others With Employment & New Careers

I thought it would be nice to share with you a couple of stories about how Catspit Productions seems to be helping people out with employment or even career changes. In these tough and uncertain economical times everyone has been looking for alternative ways of earning money. Especially interesting in these times are work at home type of endeavors like screen printing. Printing tee shirts for profit is very appealing to many people for many different reasons. I believe the single most important reason is people think screen printing is easy to do. They see a high markup on the tee shirt itself and don’t often consider the time and skills needed to actually print the shirt. That is why many first time start up printers fail. Many people do not consider the work involved not to mention the learning curve.

But in these modern times we also have an advantage that can help us overcome the aforementioned challenge of learning to screen print. If you can learn how to screen print properly, with the proper tools, it will make the labor part of the job easier. And now with the internet, interweb or cyberspace, as it were… we can scour the world for information on our favorite topics like screen printing. More specifically, learning how to screenprint. That’s where the Catspit website and the YouTube videos come into play. It seems you can actually use the Catspit Productions website and YouTube channel to learn how to screen print and get a job doing it!

The following two paragraphs are from two different emails I received just in September. The first person wrote:

“Just wanted to thank you for the info….VERY IMFORMATIVE. I have caught on quick…within three months I have put in my notice for my regular job and will be a fulltime screen printer! Sometimes you just gotta take a chance on yourself, man.”

The second person said a little more with this:

“I also just wanted to thank you very much again for your videos. You really helped me go into the interview and approach the job I got from a very informed point of view as opposed to just walking in there blind. I’ve been doing so well in fact that after just my 3rd day of work, one of the owners approached me and said he wants me to give me much more responsibility so the faster I perfect my techniques the faster I’ll get promotions. Even though that part of it is due to my experience with managing others, I definitely attribute some of it to your videos. You’ve helped me out a lot and I just wanted to share with you my appreciation. I could go on thanking you but I think you get the idea. Your videos have already yielded so much for me personally that I can’t wait to watch all of them and also help share what I learn to my coworkers to help the great business I’m now a part of.”

I was very pleased to get these emails and once again be reassured that my efforts to teach screenprinting online for free is actually working. In reality I receive many messages through YouTube and the website thanking me for doing what I do. All I can say is you’re welcome and thank you. I enjoy doing it and without everyone giving support and interacting with me online it would not be possible for me to do it. “The People” are a huge part of this project and only your support can keep the project alive.

Well I hope you all enjoyed these stories of Catspit helping out with real world employment. It really does make me feel good when someone takes the time to send me messages like the ones posted here. Thanks to everyone! Learn how to screen print with Catspit Productions, LLC!

How To Screen Print: Tips On Washing Out Screens

Well another new screen printing video has been uploaded to YouTube. I have been very busy lately making videos and writing articles for publication. Now I am getting ready to turn my attention to writing some articles for the website. I am totally a stereotypical writer in that I only write when “inspired”. That means I only can write when it comes easily to me. I can’t force something if I am not feeling it. Well, yes I can but I don’t enjoy it that way…LOL. So this is one of the last of my simplest videos. I am going to try to bring more to the video editing table with future productions. I already experimented with  a couple of new videos coming up and it was fun. i hope to do it more and better.

The new screenprinting tutorial video is called, “How To Screen Print: Tips On Washing Out Screens.” This is a quick tip video in which I give you some advice on washing out the screen after you expose it with your film positive. Here I point out some things that will help you make a stencil easier when working in a shop or even at home. This video compliments the videos already on the YouTube channel about screen making. I have been thinking about remaking a series of videos about screen making but there are so many video topics I want to cover now that I never know where the path will lead me. I do plan video topics and upload dates to a certain extent but never more than a month in advance. Yea, I have a special oversized calendar which serves as the Catspit video planner. Anyway if you follow the tips in this video I really think it could help out.

I think that’s about it for now folks. I have 2 new videos in line for the week of October 10th which I am excited about as they represent my new attempts at video editing. So stay tuned while I try to make better educational videos that are well produced while unscripted and entertaining. Thanks for reading! Learn how to screen print with Catspit Productions, LLC!

How To Screen Print: Tips On Software For Artwork

Today I uploaded a new screen printing video to YouTube. This video is a quick tip video even though it is 10 minutes long…LOL. I have been trying to do these quick tips videos in which I give some fast info on printing tee shirts but I always seem to go a lot longer than I originally intended. I suppose once I get started about screen printing my gift of gab really shines through. But in the end, as in this video which I almost re cut but later decided to leave it as is, you get some personal insight into the topic of learning how to create artwork for t shirts. I think that is what gives me a connection with you all. The personal nature of my videos and the honesty that I share with you is what keeps every one coming back for more. Wouldn’t you agree?

And even though I have become more refined and a bit more commercial since the first video about screenprinting, I still retain all of the qualities of my video making that made me popular in the first place. I am still working on improving things like lighting, audio and video production but I don’t think I will ever turn to cheap editing effects and comedy to gain more popularity on YouTube. Well, only a little bit… I am allowing my personality to show much more and I do want the videos to be fun or entertaining to watch. Wouldn’t it be funny if I did a screen printing video in the style of What The Buck? Or Ray William Johnson? Yea, it might be funny but I’m not sure I want to go down that road….LOL.

Alright enough already, the new video is called, “How To Screen Print: Tips On Software For Artwork.” I do think I am getting the lighting down here and the audio is ok for now. External remote microphones are expensive. Over all I like the new look of my videos and in this one I discuss the software I use to create the artwork that I do in house. Now I have several artists and even my brother and niece who create artwork for me as I am no expert on the matter. But I can share with you the major software used in the creation of screenprinting artwork. In this video I give you some personal insight into what it will take to learn the entire screen printing process including artwork so you can do it all by yourself. Many people have asked me what software I use to create artwork and I answer that question and more for you all to enjoy.

I hope this video helps you out in your screenprinting endeavors. Thanks for stopping by the blog and having a read. Learn how to screen print with Catspit Productions, LLC!

Catspit Gets Coverage In Stitches Magazine Article

I thought I would share this interesting happening with you all. I was recently contacted by Chris Ruvo of Stitches Magazine for a phone interview. He wanted to speak with me about how the YouTube channel has helped Catspit Productions to earn business and create opportunities on the internet. I literally spent a few hours with Chris on the phone in 2 different calls. Each phone call was an interview for a separate Stitches article. I figured this would be a good thing for Catspit and perhaps give my business some added exposure while perhaps giving it some credibility in the industry.

I think maybe YouTube, being the social networking website on steroids that it is, should have certainly received a lot more attention in this article. But somehow Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn always seem to get massive media attention… hmmm. Video marketing is the biggest thing online right now for businesses to reach out and attract new customers and new opportunities. I think YouTube is far more effective at reaching prospects than Facebook or Twitter combined.

Here’s why: YouTube is owned by Google. Google includes YouTube videos in search results. People search Google and YouTube for information on a wide variety of topics. Some people skip Google and go straight to YouTube for “how to” videos and more. The fact is YouTube has become a resource for informational videos as well as entertainment videos and is often used much like a search engine for such. If you take a look at the huge variety of “how to” channels you will find every topic from cooking to pool maintenance and even small engine repair. Also YouTube happens to be the single most popular video sharing site in the world. Yea, that helps too.

Anyway if you have a moment, check out the article here: http://www.stitches-digital.com/publication/frame.php?i=79157&pjs=1&&pn=&ver=swf&p=73

You’ll have to go to the second page and skim around to find the YouTube section, or you could read the whole thing. Thanks for the cool article Chris; I appreciate the attention and coverage. And have no fear my fellow screen printers! I will be doing some writing for a very well-known industry magazine shortly. And I hope to expand my freelance writing in the future so stay tuned and enjoy this little tidbit of an interview article for now…

How To Set Up And Screenprint Aprons

I uploaded a new educational screen printing video to YouTube today. This was another fun one to make I must say. I don’t often print much else but tee shirts but as a garment printer you will get asked to print other wearable items or non wearable things too. It is very possible to print a wide array of flat substrates with a rotary textile press. The difference in printing a shirt and printing an apron is the set up on press. Certain items you may want to print will also require a particular screen and/or pallet set up.

The new screenprinting video is called, “How To Screen Print: Setting Up & Printing Aprons.” This is a video in which you will get to see the set up on press and the actual printing. I go from start to finish and you’ll see how I sort of wing this sort of thing by eyeballing the apron to the screen to the pallet. LOL… yea, I know. How confusing, right? Not at all. Its really rather easy to screenprint something like an apron. Just stop by the website or the YouTube channel and have a look for yourself. Please remember to rate thumbs up and leave a comment if you like what you see. Yes, and as always please subscribe. I always appreciate that very much. It’s a simple gesture but it means a lot, thanks for the support!

Anyway, I have been very busy doing a lot of training and even writing for some upcoming exciting “things.” I’ll keep you all posted on that. Please remember that you can get 5 to 15% off screen printing supplies and more on the Print Supplies page of the Catspit website. Have you seen the website lately? Maybe you should drop by and have a look at that too. The navigation has changed; more on that soon too.

Screenprinting Classes, Training & Demonstrations

Catspit Productions is now proud to offer a limited selection of screenprinting classes, in shop training, and demonstrations. It has been a long time in the making but finally I am able to offer some basic training in a classroom type situation. That was the problem until recently. I didn’t have a place to hold any kind of classes. Obviously when RANAR heard about this they were happy to invite me to hold classes sat their location in El Segundo. They even made it so the cost of the class could be put toward qualifying equipment purchases. I thought that was pretty cool. So in addition to the class at RANAR I am also offering training in your shop as well as on site printing demonstrations.

So the classes at RANAR will be held on certain dates only and most often after trade shows in the area. Since I am coming to teach the class personally, we needed to make it a twofold trip. I get to come work the shows with RANAR and then I can stay to teach some classes. It works out well for me that way. If you are interested in learning more about the classes at RANAR or the other Catspit training options, please visit the website’s new Classes & Training page.

http://catspitproductionsllc.com/screenprintingclasses.aspx

The onsite training and demos will remain constant on the page but the RANAR classes will periodically change or even be on hold depending on the scheduling at that time. You can predict that in most cases where there is a screen printing trade show in Long Beach I will come in to do the show and teach a class or two. Anyway, the class page will be dynamic and you can always learn about class dates here on the blog too. The next scheduled class at RANAR is;

Screen Printing 101, Introduction to Printing Tee Shirts

When – January 23rd, 2012. The Monday after the ISS Long Beach Show

Where – Ranar Mfg Co. Inc., 149 Lomita Street, El Segundo, CA 90245

Individual Fee – $175

2 Individuals Fee – $250

Duration – 8 hour day with lunch break

Course materials: In this introductory class you will learn about the tools needed to screen print tee shirts. Jonathan will walk you through the process explaining what you need to do the job and what it will cost to get set up. Here you can get a good understanding of the process from art to the printed tee shirt. Jonathan will discuss the equipment required, the space needed and the supplies that will be used. You’ll get to learn about artwork, film output, screen making, setting up on press, printing, and even reclaiming. You will coat a screen, washout a 1 color stencil, reclaim a screen and print some 4 color shirts to take home. For the printing part of the class we will have a 4 color design to set up and print. The shirts you print yourself are yours to take home. What makes this class even better is if you decide to buy equipment, you get to deduct the cost of the class from qualifying purchases. Feel free to bring your own packed lunch if you like but lunch & refreshments will be provided at RANAR.

You Can REGISTER HERE. Thanks for stopping by the blog and having a read. I appreciate your support. Learn how to screen print with Catspit Productions, LLC!

How To Screen Print: Sourcing Blank Garments

Another educational screen printing video was uploaded to YouTube today. It has been very hot in the shop lately as Arizona goes through a “heat wave” with temperatures in the 110’s. July and August were also Monsoon season and although we had little rain this year we did have one storm that flooded my entire street. That happened when I was making this new video. We also had a few rather large dust storms too. I hate how the news people call them Haboobs. I always thought that type of name was geographically specific. Meaning a Haboob is a large dust storm in the Sahara desert. But according to Wikipedia, it seems like a general term. Eh, what do I know but to me its a dust storm.

Anyway the new Catspit video is called, “How To Screen Print: Sourcing Your Blank Garments”. In this quick tip video I discuss a few factors to consider when buying blank tee shirts for screen printing. In the video you can actually hear the Monsoon outside the shop. It is a little distracting but I though it made for an entertaining video. I have to say that it made me think of the many natural disasters we have been having in the States lately. Earthquakes, hurricanes, tornadoes, flooding, fires and even giant dust storms! Holy crap, what is this? End times? It could be so you better all learn how to screen print your Apocalypse tee shirts now. If you wait until the last minute, you won’t have time to learn how to screenprint t shirts. But seriously, it makes me think how lucky I am to be in the area I am where it seems to be quiet for now. It’s such a horrible thing to hear people’s homes and properties are destroyed especially in this economy. And when people die in these things it’s even more reminding of how we are at the mercy of Mother Nature.

If you need some tips and advice on buying blank garments for your screen printing endeavors, then make sure to stop by the website or YouTube and have a look at the latest video. Thanks for reading! Learn how to screen print with Catspit Productions, LLC!

Where Have All The Catspit Shirts Gone?

Some of you may have noticed that the web pages for the Catspit website which contain the EBay listings for tee shirts has been removed. Originally I had decided to move the tee shirts I had on EBay onto the website only. Meaning I would terminate the listings on EBay and offer the shirts for sale directly on the Catspit website but through PayPal only. After some considerable thought, I actually decided to do the opposite. I have deleted the EBay tee shirt pages from the website but the actual EBay listings are still active. For now…

I have come to the conclusion that I simply do not have the time or resources needed to pursue the Catspit designer tee shirts. The fact of the matter is there is a huge amount of competition for novelty garments and with the humongous internet corporations that provide thousands of complicated designs on many different style shirts, I do not have the ability to compete and that portion of the Catspit project was going nowhere. I really never put the time into developing and marketing any of the shirts because I am always busy with printing or sales and internet stuff. I felt that those web pages with the EBay shirts were stale and were taking away from the rest of the website. Therefore, I have removed these pages permanently.

You will still be able to purchase the Catspit shirts  on EBay for a short time. I think by Halloween this year they will be removed from EBay as well. I apologize to anyone whom this is an inconvenience for. But in the end I think the website is better off for it and it brings the focus onto the educational screen printing material that much more. Maybe someday I will get to concentrate on a line of designer screen printed tee shirts to sell through my website using PayPal. But for now, I am going to keep working on screenprinting and screen printing education.

Thanks again for all your support and make sure to check out the new shop pictures located on the main Printing Articles section where the process overview is. It’s been a long time coming but I finally made some better images of the new shop to replace to old ones from the old warehouse. Thanks for reading!
