Do I Need RIP Software and All Black Ink Systems To Screen Print Tee Shirts?

So I stirred up a bunch of questions with that video about RIP software and dye based ink systems. Let me clarify the point. You don’t necessarily need RIP and all black ink systems when you’re just starting out. If you’re not making halftones then RIP is unnecessary. AccuRIP makes the claim that their software lays down more ink than without it and that may be the case. But it only uses one print head at a time either way. However, there is only so much ink it can lay down before the ink will run off the film. Inkjet film is an acetate film with an “emulsion” coated on one side.

Inkjet Film Positives

The more emulsion there is the more inkjet ink the film can take. But not all inkjet film positives are created equal. Of course my inkjet film positives are the best 😉 Now here’s the key. If you’re using an excellent emulsion like my Saati textile PC Blue then your film positive does not need to be 100% opaque. Poor emulsions need the best film positives while more dynamic and higher quality emulsions will work with a decent film positive. Never in my experience have I ever seen a completely 100% opaque light blocking film positive. But I have seen an emulsion making all the difference in the stencil making process. Try these items on an industrial black lamp fluorescent exposure unit without RIP and tell me how easy it is to make a screen.

These are the exact same products I use in the Catspit videos to make screens.

How To Screen Print: Sizing Artwork For Different Tee Shirts & Pallets

This is another video I made because I am getting this question a lot. In the past few weeks I have gotten this question maybe 6 or more times. Here I explain how I might deal with different sized garments that may require different size prints. I tried to include everything in this video but it was hard to do since I jump around a bit and do some redundant reinforcement but here are the general breakdowns of what I might do with different sized garments.

Small through extra-large and perhaps double extra-large – Same size artwork. (No fee)
Triple extra-large and up – Larger sized artwork. (No fee)
Women’s wear and youth wear – smaller sized artwork with smaller pallets. (Perhaps a fee)
Infant wear and toddlers – very small artwork with special pallet set ups. (Extra fee)

Also remember that when you’re doing a multi colored job with say 4 colors then you may have no choice but to charge for upsizing or downsizing of artwork since there will be a lot of screen making to be done. A 4 color job with 3 different sizing’s would require 12 screens. So check out this video and see if it helps you out in sizing artwork for screenprinting tee shirts. Enjoy and thanks for watching!

Screenprinting Tee Shirts: Do I Need RIP Software & All Black Ink Systems?

This is a video I made because I am getting this question a lot. This is one of those things that gets convoluted by marketing and advertising ploys from the biggest companies in the market. I thought it was time to rundown the basics as I know them and clear up some of the myths and misnomers about RIP software and all black ink systems. Here I discuss what RIP actually does and why it alone does not make your film positives darker or denser. I also touch on all black ink systems and dye based inks compared to the standard pigment inks you get in the Epson printers from the factory. This video is designed to clear up the advertisements and sales pushes to sell RIP packages to start up or beginner screen printers. Not all RIP software is the same and they all do different things but this information is general and true for most scenarios. There are always exceptions to the rule. But if you’re in the market for an inkjet printer, RIP software and an all-black ink system you may want to watch this video first. Enjoy and thanks for watching!

Learn How To Screen Print Tee Shirts: White Plastisol Ink On Black Garments

I have shown you many times before videos on printing white ink on black tee shirts. So this educational screenprinting video is no different. This is a production run for a friend of mine who works on my vehicles. I often do trades for work since I don’t print commercially any longer. In this tutorial video you see a casual production run with white plastisol ink being printed onto black garments. I do not use a double hit or flash on this and we are using the new Economy line inks from CatspitScreenPrintSupply.com. I love this new high opacity white ink because it is thin, easy to work with, very competitively priced, and it works awesome. I’ll be doing more videos with this ink and more from out collection very soon. Check out our plastisol ink line which tends to be thinner than most plastisol inks yet kicks some screenprinting but in the opacity department. If you’re in the market for a new line of inks that are low coast, easy to use and perform excellent then have a look see at my new line up of plastisol inks. Enjoy and thanks for watching!

Screenprinting Product Review: Saati Magi Wet Vac Screen Nozzle

Okay, so originally I forgot I had shown you this little device in a previous video. I mention in video that I did not have it on hand the last time I talked about it but I forgot…. LOL. I actually did show it to you and I did demonstrate it a bit in a previous video where we talked about clearing out your stencil after washing out the screen. But I really wanted to feature it alone and I did need a better product video for the ecommerce site hence this revisit of the Saati Magi Vac Nozzle. I love this little device and I’m happy to have it in stock now and in use at the Catspit shop. I used to use low air pressure a lot but this vacuum nozzle will make things much easier while preventing accidental damage to the stencil from excessive air pressure and water soaked emulsion. So this video is a much better look at the product with a more detailed demonstration with close up shots. I hope those of you who did see the video featuring this product previously won’t find it too redundant. It will be a lot of fun to show this item off in the classes and training at the new storefront in Phoenix. Enjoy and thanks for watching!

Learn Screen Printing: Light Safe DIY Screen Drying Rack Revisited

Here’s yet another educational screenprinting video in which we take another look at my do it yourself screen drying rack. If you recall years ago we made this same drying box with black corrugated plastic and gaffers tape. In this video I show you the rebirth of the same drying box remade with hard wood materials for a more permanent build.

The dry box is built pretty much exactly the same as far as the panels, light baffles and venting but I give you the latest rundown on the minor modifications I made while rebuilding this with the luan material. My brother did the entire rebuild at his house following the same format we originally did so you can use the original video in order to plan the build with Coroplast or luan wood materials. Either way all you need is the screen rack and that makes it pretty easy to build your own light safe screen drying rack without spending a fortune. This unit cost about $400 to build including the purchase of the screen rack. Compared to commercially made screen drying boxes that is a great deal. You can watch the original build video here:

Screen Printing Equipment and Supply Store: Phoenix, Arizona

Things are coming along nicely in the storefront. I am still finishing all the little details like getting the expensive safety equipment needed for the classes… LOL. I also had to work up a safety checklist and a waiver. The insurance company demanded that I do those things of course. This video gives you a great look at my location just south of the I-10 Interstate in Phoenix, Arizona. I’m on Broadway Road and this particular part is also known as Martin Luther King Boulevard but most of us will recognize it as good old Broadway. I’m between 40th street and 32nd street on Broadway. You can take the I-10 if you’re coming from afar. So take a look at how things are filling out with supplies and equipment and get a better idea of where I am at. Then come on in for a visit if you’re in the Phoenix area and you need screenprinting supplies and equipment. Learn how to screen print tee shirts with Catspit Productions, LLC! Thanks for watching!

American Made Heat Presses: HIX Units Are Built Like A U.S. Tank

I’m proud to announce the addition of HIX to the Catspit line up of heat press equipment. HIX is made in the USA and the units are built like a tank. I have been selling some inexpensive Chinese imports for the past 6 years or so and they have been great. But I wanted to offer and feature a high end press that was all American made. In this video you will learn why I chose HIX and why we now feature HIX heat presses on our ecommerce store and in Phoenix. This video will showcase a 25 year old HIX heat press as we discuss why I chose HIX as my flagship heat press. Then we take a quick look at the newest HIX swinger heat press we have here in the storefront ready for local pick up. Sit back and relax as I explain why HIX is a great heat press to buy especially if you’re into American made products. Learn how to screen print tee shirts with Catspit Productions, LLC!
