The Cat Is Back! Well Sort Of Anyway…

So I posted this on Instagram yesterday to let everyone know how I am doing post-surgery. This is my good buddy Squeegee who hangs out with me all the time. He was kind enough to read a lot of cool stories to me while I was stuck in bed recovering. He just loves my collection of vintage books and such 😉 Things are getting back to normal with the exception of the one armed computer work. Of course my dictation software is not installed on this computer and I forgot to see that it was. I’ll have to see if I can get that working. I apologize to anyone who encountered any delays due to my shoulder surgery. Thank you all for your patience and understanding. If you’re in Phoenix please be aware I will be closed this Saturday so I can rest. I’m still in a sling for about 3 more weeks or so.

Catspit Productions Phoenix Storefront Closed For Medical Leave

This is just another reminder that I will be closed tomorrow through Monday the 1st. I’m having shoulder surgery to repair a messed up arm and it will put me out of commission for s few days. The ecommerce store will operate as usual with a slight delay tomorrow. Tracking info for orders may be delayed by 24 hours but know I will get back to work ASAP and I will be answering the phone or emails at home.

This image was drawn by my good friend Kerry Stewart. I thought I would post this just in case I don’t wake up from general anesthesia….. LOL 😉

Screen Printing T-Shirts: Understanding And Using Textile Scorch Out

I uploaded this video late Friday because I have been busy trying to get ready for this surgery I’m going to have tomorrow. Please remember I will be closed from Tuesday through Monday next week most likely. I may answer phone calls and work online from home as soon as I am able but I don’t know how I will be feeling with one hand and the pain medication so we shall see. I apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. I will respond to all correspondences as soon as possible. Thank you for your patience and understanding.

Many of you may have heard of a product called scorch out. This is a product we use to remove a yellowing of the 100% cotton fabrics due to overheating. Sometimes when we print white, ash, natural and other light colors like light blue we can experience scorching. This happens when the fabric gets too hot and the cotton singes slightly turning a faint yellow color. This yellow “staining” might be removed using a product called scorch out. If the garment is scorched too much then we will not be able to use the product to fix that. That’s what we call burned. So check out this video and learn about what scorch out is and how to use it. I also give you an example of what it might work on and what it will definitely not work on. So follow along as I explain to you what scorch out is, why we use it, and how we use it. If you have ever seen this occur with white shirts then you know why it’s important to have a bottle of scorch out on hand in the screen printing shop. Enjoy!

You can always see my holiday schedule here where you can learn about any store closings or events: http://catspitscreenprintsupply.com/catspit-productions-llc-holiday-store-schedule/

Don’t forget I offer FREE SHIPPING on screen printing equipment anywhere in the continental US and all crating or boxing fees are included in the pricing! PLUS no sales tax except in California. Enjoy the video and thanks for watching!

Who Cut The Cheese? I Mean Who Cut The Squeegee?

I finally was able to cut some more squeegee for the Phoenix storefront and I didn’t even run out of anything. I’m trying to get a few things done this week before I have my shoulder worked on so I have to quart some ink too. I really needed to order some inks and more squeegee but I think that will have to wait until after I get back from next week’s break. Please know that the ecommerce store will be up and running as usual but there might be a slight delay in processing supply orders by a day or so. If you need something in a rush next week you should order it this week otherwise I may not be able to help out in time. Check out this cool photograph I made of the chop saw after cutting all those 6 foot lengths of wooden handle squeegee. Very Catspit cool 😉

The Cat Is Injured: Screen Printing Videos Update and Closing Schedule

Okay so I wanted to announce this well ahead of time since next week will be difficult for me to get through business wise. I recently learned that I have 2 torn tendons and a damaged rotator cuff in my left shoulder. Unfortunately it will require surgery if I ever want to relieve the pain and regain strength in my arm. I have already lost about 50% of my strength and it seems to be getting worse. One of the more torn tendons is sliding across a bone as I move my shoulder which can cause severe pain at times. Since I am somewhat young and I feel that my right shoulder may eventually succumb to the same issues, I am having the surgery done next Tuesday in the hope that I will regain movement and strength. This means I will be unable to do printing videos for a while and the storefront will likely be closed for most of next week. After I overcome the pain medication and I can talk, I will take calls at home on the phone to help customers out as much as I can while I get better enough to return to the storefront. I will be open as usual on Monday the 25th and then close on Tuesday the 26th of next week. Then we will take it day by day as to when I will return to the storefront. I apologize for nay inconvenience and I know some of you were looking to do training with me soon. I apologize. I wouldn’t be doing this if it weren’t necessary and I’m trying to get it done and over with. The recovery is long for this surgery.

I wish I had a mini me 😦

Screen Printing Tee Shirts: Inexpensive High Opacity Yellow Plastisol Ink

Here’s the second plastisol ink video featuring my high opacity line of economy inks. This one shows lemon yellow being printed. The printed surface of this ink is actually very nice. In this video series we look at the ink with an extreme close up which shows a lot of texture. In person it’s much smoother looking and with the print/flash/print it’s very smooth of course. I have 2 sample shirts in the Phoenix storefront where you can see this first hand.

This is an inexpensive ink with high performance results. I’m carrying mostly gallons in different colors with quarts in select colors. I actually have to quart the ink myself and label them so I’m trying to offer as many colors in quarts as I can in Phoenix. Here’s the pricing for the economy standard black and white inks. As you can see the gallons are the best value since this ink is so competitively priced. This has excellent performance, great pricing and it’s thinner than most other plastisol inks. Try them today with a full money back satisfaction guarantee. I have 6 new videos about the phthalate free high opacity colors of this same plastisol ink. I decided to do a bonus shot in this video showing the ink printed with a one hit wonder AND a print/flash/print. I wanted to not only show how well the inks work but I wanted to prove you can print the same or more ink volumes without flashing. There is definitely a difference in the finished print surface but the opacity is pretty much the same. So now I have 2 sample shirts in the Phoenix storefront which you can come in and see in person in order to view the quality of my inexpensive plastisol ink line. And you can see in person the wicked amount of ink I can print with these thinner high opacity inks without flashing. Check out the video for our fast flash white below.

Premium Wood Handle Squeegees:
3” – 60/70/80 durometer – $5.00 each
6” – 60/70/80 durometer – $8.00 each
12” – 60/70/80 durometer – $15.00 each
14” – 60/70/80 durometer – $18.00 each
16” – 60/70/80 durometer – $20.00 each
6’ Wood Handle – $44.99 each
6’ Squeegee Rolls (60,70,80) – $35.00 each

60 durometer squeegees – These are commonly used in situations where a higher volume of ink is desired. Softer squeegees blades will generally print more ink than harder ones. This enables the printer to print more ink for higher opacity and coverage. Use this durometer for printing white on black tee shirts or printing any high opacity color ink on dark garments.

70 durometer squeegees – These are the most commonly used squeegees for textiles and are often thought of as the default. But that is not always the case. This is the median squeegee for textiles and is soft with a firm feel. Use this squeegee for printing on whites, light colored garments or when printing finer line work than your average spot color.

80 durometer squeegee – These are the hardest of the 3 choices for textiles. Any harder is unnecessary for fabrics. Use this durometer in combination with higher mesh counts for halftones, four color process, and fine line details.

Screen Printing T-Shirts: How To Pour Emulsion Into Your Scoop Coater

This may seem like an easy thing to do and a topic which needs no attention but the basics are sometimes what scares us most. Am I right? But I wanted to upload another high opacity ink video this week as well so this is a quickie video to allow us to do 2 videos this week. On Thursday I’ll upload another high opacity ink video featuring a different color like red or yellow.

So after getting this question about how to pour emulsion into scoop coaters without making a mess several times I figured it would be easy to show you how I do it. This is a quick tips screen printing video in which I demonstrate how to pour your emulsion into the scoop coater without making a huge mess. I also discuss how to clean up emulsion after coating your screens with emulsion and how to return unused emulsion to the container. Follow along in this fun and light hearted tutorial video about screenprinting tee shirts and other textiles. You can find scoop coaters and emulsion on the Catspit ecommerce store.

Scoop coaters:
Scoop Coaters

Scoop coaters are used for coating screens with emulsion in order to expose the screen to UV light with your film positive to create the stencil. When coating screens manually it is often difficult to achieve a smooth uniform surface with consistent thickness. To ensure complete coverage, filling in all of the mesh openings, you will want to use a multiple pass method with 2 passes being the minimum. Scoop coaters come with a thin, sharp edge and a duller, round edge. The thin, sharp edge will leave less emulsion in the mesh where the round edge will leave more emulsion in the mesh.

Emulsions:
Emulsion

We carry emulsions from Saati, RhinoTech and MacDermid Autotype. If you don’t see it here call us to order by phone – 480-899-9089

Don’t forget I offer FREE SHIPPING on screen printing equipment anywhere in the continental US and all crating or boxing fees are included in the pricing! PLUS no sales tax except in California. Enjoy the video and thanks for watching!

Catspit Productions Tutorial Screen Printing Video Cited In Wearables Magazine

Over the years I have written a few articles for the screenprinting industry and I have been cited numerous times throughout the internet and in print. I am often not notified when I am used or cited in any publication whether it be online or in print. My online work is also used in many students’ research papers and other scholastic works. That is very rewarding and I’m very happy to have grown into a respected informational resource. Recently, I was simply glancing through my latest physical copy of Wearables Magazine and I noticed a familiar person. It was me! Evidently one of my videos has been featured in a recent article from the July 2016 edition. I think I have actually written something for them in the past. I have written for Printwear Magazine and I have those articles on display in the Phoenix storefront for fun.
