Check out this very cool image from Eric Gidley. This is a computer illustration he did in a Catspit theme. It’s funny because this is what I envision my backyard to be like once I settle down and buy a house…. LOL. The castle is out of frame in this image 😉 Eric is currently working on a speed or time lapse video about drawing this artwork and he shares the details of what he used to do it. Where’re going to upload that to the Catspit Productions YouTube channel probably this week or next. Whenever he gets it ready, I’ll upload it and take a break from making videos that week. It’s not as easy as you may thing to come up with new video ideas every week and then shoot, edit and post each video. Sometimes it can be creatively taxing but I enjoy doing it as much as I can. Screenprinting T-Shirts: What Is And How To Prevent Fibrillation On Fabrics?

Okay so this one video actually spawned 2 others…. LOL. When you’re on fire, you roll with it. Next video up is one about improving your print resolution through your print stroke since it could have been included in the fibrillation video. But I find making the stand alone videos is best for our audience so they can easily find the topics they need to learn about. Plus it makes for a shorter video 😉 Then I made a quick video about printing on used clothing. Stay tuned for all of these and more coming up free on YouTube!

Here’s another educational video about screenprinting tee shirts and other fabrics. This video discusses fibrillation and how you might prevent it. Fibrillation usually occurs when you wash a printed garment and the underlying fibers of the shirt come through the print. They appear fuzzy and tend to make the print look faded. However, you can see fibrillation occur immediately after printing in some cases where the ink is over worked or maybe the fabric is too soft. Sometimes the ink can be an issue as well. Here we will discuss fibrillation in detail showing an example and demonstrating a few things that may cause it. In doing so we will also teach you how you can prevent it or even fix it in certain situations. If you have ever wondered about the appearance of fibers in your printed ink surface, then this video is a must see. If you can put up with me talking about it for a little bit, you will learn all about the details and nuances of dealing with fibrillation. Thanks for watching and enjoy!

I was supposed to be closed today but I came into the office to do some paper work and play with Mike Wrigley’s artwork on press. Screenprinting Paper Posters With A Textile Press And Vacuum Pallet

In this educational screen printing video we take a look at how to screen print paper posters using a manual rotary textile printing press and a special vacuum pallet attachment. For the most part you can print almost any flat substrate on a manual rotary tee shirt press as long as it can fit under the amount of off contact range you have. But with paper posters we really don’t have to worry about that much and we can use a vacuum pallet to hold the paper in place while we print and pull the screen up. Follow along in this video where I give you a basic rundown of the entire process. I had to add quite a bit of retarder to the poster ink and it made it a bit gray but also remember the camera is affected by the surrounding white paper which makes it look a bit softer gray than it actually is. Poster ink without any additives is usually very rich, flat and deep in its blackness. However the entire halftone came out pretty well and you’ll get to see the print close up in this tutorial poster printing video. Enjoy!

Screen Printing Video Update And What’s Going On?

All right so I have been working on several things at once the past few weeks. I had to crate a piece of equipment I had here in Phoenix which I normally do not do. That was a challenge due to my shoulder surgery and the lack of tools and space. But the crate has been picked up today and that is done. I also filmed the poster video and now I have to edit it. I thought I might upload it this week but I’m going to finish the postcard tee-shirt giveaway with ink samples video instead. That will give me time to edit and do any reshoots I might need to for the poster video. That air dry poster ink was more difficult to work with than the air dry solvent Coroplast ink I did a video about a while back so I had to do a few things to make the video work well. I used more way retarder than I usually would….. LOL. But the printing video will still be very informative and the halftone actually didn’t turn out bad at all. So please stay tuned as I finish up a few things about the shop.
