If you are looking for technical tips and instructions on getting a perfect stencil for screen printing, then you should have a look at this great article by Ross Balfour of SaatiPrint. This is an older article from 2007 but it has a lot of information packed into it from one of the leading screenprinting chemical manufactures in the industry. This article is very technical but it also has a decent amount of information that is easily read and understood by anyone with good reading comprehension.
Check out this excerpt from the article: “A screen printing stencil has to perform four functions. Two are important for any type of screen printing, since the stencil must first reproduce the image that is to be printed and be resistant to abrasion and chemical attack. The last two functions are particularly important for high-quality line or halftone printing, because the stencil can help to control the amount of ink that is printed. The stencil is also responsible for controlling image acutance, more commonly referred to as print edge definition. Clearly, the stencil plays a critical role in the overall success of a screen printing job. This article will review the variables associated with stencils and describe how to minimize them and remedy the harmful effects they may impart to your work.”
The article is called, “In Pursuit of the Perfect Stencil”. The article is located HERE.
