An Old Design For A New Screenprinting Video!

Thankfully the power outage we had yesterday is fixed. The power came on about 4pm yesterday. I did end up coming back to the storefront to make sure everything was off and reply to some emails. Anyway…. this past weekend I had a student come in for a multi colored printing training session and we set up this older but very cool Catspit design with 4 colors. This art was made for printing on white tee shirts only and has spot colors mixed with some halftone work. It’s a simple yet complex design since it does allow for some mixing of the yellow and red in the flowers. I am shooting a very short video about this print that will feature a test print of the design and some close up shots of the print. The color hue of the video seems jacked up for some reason but I think I can clean it up well enough to get a good video out of the footage I took. It’s odd. One day the camera is fine with nice cool blue whites and then other times it seems to pick up colors that are not there. Go figure…. Please stay tuned.

Live Tee Shirt Screen Printing Event: Catspit Prints At School Carnival

Check out this screenprinting video about a live event I did recently. I was experimenting with the sharpness of the video and it may have pixilated the intro and outro. I think it helped out with the actual video though. I noticed lately that the sharpness of my HD video didn’t seem to be all that sharp….LOL. I think my software isn’t that great so I tweaked the sharpness to compensate. But the video is a lot of fun so check it out.

Here’s a very fun video about a live screenprinting event at a local school here in the Phoenix area. This is Norterra Canyon Elementary School K-8 in the north valley. David Stuart contacted me and asked about a live event for his school’s annual carnival. Of course I was happy to help out and we set up a little gig to print their carnival shirts live. My brother John came along and helped out which was great and we had a lot of fun talking with the kids and parents too.

Screen Printing Tee Shirts: The Ranar Micro Registration Zeroing System

Okay after that bout of food poisoning it took me a week to get back to 100% normal. So here’s a quick screen printing video about the zeroing system on my presses I sell. I’m hoping to cut some squeegee today and then do some test printing for Mike Wrigley’s 3 color halftone art. I was thinking of doing 2 sets of screens at 45LPI and 55LPI to show the difference and make the video a little more interesting. So stay tuned. That will be the next orienting video for sure. I may have a couple of other videos to upload in the meantime while I work on that video.

Here’s an educational screenprinting video about Ranar screen printing presses and the micro registration zeroing system. This is a mechanical, physical system that has no printed marks of any kind on the print head so that you never have to worry about them wearing off. This also helps keep production costs down by physically integrating the zeroing system into the print head micro registration. 8 Color Plastisol Discharge Screen Printing Video

Here’s an interesting screenprinting video where we see a “plasticharge” screen print on dark garments. It’s an interesting design and color separation since it does not appear to have a traditional discharge white under base. The lightest color seems to be a natural or cream color that is under most of the image but this is a very cool separation and print sequence. I think the colors and print method looked great on the brown shirt they used.

Another Screenprinting Customer and Student Learns How to Fish!

I teach and help a lot of people to learn how to screen print tee shirts locally and throughout the world. But I have noticed reluctance and a certain apprehension when it comes to going it alone with many students. So I want to share an old proverb about fishing that I learned from my great father Senior Catspit John Monaco. He once said, “If you give a man a fish, you feed him for a day. If you TEACH him how to fish, he will eat for a lifetime.” This is very true with screen printing and we can even go further here. Let me say I can only teach and guide you so much. There comes a point where you need to “dive” in and start learning by trial and error. Otherwise you will be handicapped in your printing efforts if you rely too heavily on anyone to complete the task. Check out this very awesome print from Kevin Merrow at Deep Narcosis Scuba here in Maricopa, AZ. At first he was apprehensive about making his owns screens even after buying all the necessary tools and supplies. But look at his work now. Notice the capital T registration marks 😉 Kevin and his wife did the art, film positives, the screens and the printing here. This job turned out great. They did an excellent job and I think they are now very proud and happy to have accomplished this. They both will make excellent screen printers to serve their community of divers and associates.
