I have to admit that lately I have been enjoying myself when it comes to making some of the intros for the screen printing videos. Now that I have had the luxury of a private shop for sometime I am finding myself thinking about different ways to utilize my photography skills in the educational videos. When I made videos in the old cooperative warehouse I was unable to take the time to do what I do now. My early videos were much different than the ones I make currently. And that really points out the fact that my videos became popular because of the way I was teaching screenprinting and how I seem to make a comforting connection with the viewer. I am so very happy to know that from how well received some of my older videos are. And in fact one could really say that they were very bad as far as video making. But you all enjoyed watching them and learning from them despite the fact that they were dry and often done in one cut. And I thank you so much for that because now I am getting to make such better videos and I am getting to utilize some of my creative energies.
I hope by combining the same teaching style that you already love with a new visual and video creativeness that you will enjoy these videos even more. My ultimate goal is to make the videos as much fun to watch as they are informative. Maybe that way the YouTube videos can broaden their exposure and reach more people who want to learn how to screen print. In the latest production I used an old tactic from photography 101. The new video is called, “How To Screen Print: High Opacity Red Ink On Black Tee Shirts.” I had to actually shoot a few mock ups of the shot and then I had to film it twice in order to get the effect I desired. I shot the intro through a piece of glass enabling me to make it appear that I wiped some red ink across the YouTube player. It was not easy to do because of the reflections that the glass can pick up. But in the end after a few in camera tweaks and some editing modifications the result was very cool indeed. Even if you don’t screen print this video is worth a look especially if you are into YouTube videos or film making in general. It’s an old school trick but it’s those in front of camera techniques that I like best.
The video is all about Ryonet’s Ryopaque high opacity plastisol inks for textiles. It ended up being longer than I first anticipated but I did show how to print his ink without an under base on black tee shirts in two different ways. And not to mention that I ended up talking a decent amount but not just gibberish, no, no… I gave you some awesome tips and advice on working with any high opacity plastisol screen-printing ink. So make sure to listen up when you watch this video and be patient to stay through until the very end. You’ll be glad that you did, I promise. And what’s even better is you can get a discount on this ink and all of the print supplies form Ryonet using the Catspit promo code on the Ryonet listing. Use the Catspit promo code to enjoy 6% off list pricing on supplies. Thanks for your support!
